Lead Mechanical Design Engineer Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Sunderland £55000Huxley Engineering and a leading Medical Devices / Life Sciences Innovator are looking to recruit a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer on a permanent basis for their site in Newcastle-upon-Tyne / Sunderland area (North-East England) to mechanically design & develop engineered solutions for power electronics products within the Electric Vehicle (EV) Market. Based in their new Innovation Centre in the Newcastle-Upon-Tyne / Sunderland area and reporting into the Engineering Director, the Lead Mechanical Design Engineer will leading the Mechanical Engineering Team in the design, analysis, implementation and test of mechanical components and assemblies for electric vehicle traction, steering, and auxiliary function motor controllers.Main Responsibilities of the Lead Mechanical Design Engineer Design, prototype and debug mechanical components and assemblies for new product development, production and sustaining projects.Perform CAD simulation, analytical and physical tests to ensure the design meets specifications.Apply current techniques and tools to improve cost, design time, reliability, durability, and manufacturability.Troubleshoot designs from prototypes, development, and customer returns.Participate in mechanical, board layout and project reviews.Supervise PCB layout designer to ensure optimized interface of power electronic hardware and mechanicsQualifications & Experience Required for Lead Mechanical Design Engineer Role Bachelor's degree or equivalent plus experience in mechanical design for power electronic products within the Electric Vehicle market.Experience of running a mechanical design team within the power electronics industry.Experience of direct customer interfacing and successfully delivering customer projects.Experience in working in a multi-disciplinary team with hardware engineers to deliver solutions optimized for performance and manufacture.Experience in 2D and 3D CAD and analysis tools.Knowledge of tolerance, stress and thermal analysis.Knowledge of proper documentation dimensioning.Knowledge of modeling/simulation and design of experiments.Knowledge of good engineering practice.For the successful Lead Mechanical Design Engineer, a salary up to £55,000 + package is on offer and this Lead Mechanical Design Engineer role is commutable from Sunderland, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, Gateshead, Jesmond, Washington, Chester-le Street, Sunderland, Durham, Tynemouth, Hendon, Houghton-Le-Springs, Jarrow, South-Shields and Cramlington.To be considered for this Lead Mechanical Design Engineer role, please apply via the link below.
