Senior DevOps Engineer
London, 35 hours a week

An exciting DevOps challenge at the heart of a future-focused global network

What could be more satisfying than helping leading scientists to share and test their solutions to some of human kind's most urgent and challenging problems? That's what you'll be doing in this role at Elsevier's department for Research Technology in London, a fully-resourced capability dedicated to a relentless quest for speed, agility, cost savings and quality improvements.

Visionary skills: Towards a new Centre of Excellence
DevOps is a key position within the Technology, Infrastructure, and Operations group. Right now we're looking for someone who can play a critical role in developing a new Centre of Excellence that will deliver shared solutions for infrastructure operations across our estate. So, in addition to advanced technical skills it is essential that you can act as an inspiring ‘people person' able to present and communicate ideas to key stakeholders and engineers across Elsevier's Technology teams and Vendor partners. Above all you lead by example, based on hands-on experience of implementing infrastructure and service-based monitoring solutions, ensuring the optimized integration of infrastructure, software, and software delivery best practices.

Detailed responsibilities
Within this process you ensure the optimal construction and implementation of CI/CD pipelines, building automation to support the effective management and consumption of cloud resources. You also design and author soft infrastructure assets using IaC best practices, operate and maintain software systems across the full breadth of the SDLC, and collaborate within agile dev squads to deliver continuous improvements in customer outcomes.

It's all about you
As you'll have realized by now, this is an exciting opportunity to operate at the forefront of cloud technologies, DevOps, and infrastructure automation. So when we sit down and talk it is essential that you are able to demonstrate: 5+ years DevOps experience in large, multi-product environments; 5+ years using modern scripting and OO programming languages as a contributing member within an agile dev squad; 3+ years authoring CI/CD pipelines, automation elements related to infrastructure composition, deployment orchestration, and monitoring. Ideally you have also gained valuable experience of AWS Architecture (an accreditation would be a bonus), Terraform as an AWS automation technology, and the deployment of configuration management via Puppet.

You and the cloud
It would be fantastic if you have experience of cloud migration activities (Public or Private), a good understanding of the security controls required to host cloud applications and services, and a good understanding of release management techniques within a cloud hosted environment. Finally, familiarity with source code version control systems, e.g. GitHub would be a real bonus.
