BE THE ARCHITECT OF YOUR SUCCESS AND OURS
Why us, why now?
This is an unprecedented time for digital, data and technology in the UK government. Countries like the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand are modelling their digital transformation on ours. Why? Because we're putting user needs at the heart of digital development to make government work better for everyone. We're 17,000 colleagues across government, and we're scaling up nationwide. Our new cloud model is giving us unparalleled agility and bravery to ensure government is equipped and inspired to deliver real, meaningful change. The potential to shape our society's future is enormous - and we want you to be part of it.
About the role
As our 365 Architect, you'll quickly get familiar with our current and future business needs, and you'll determine how these can be best supported by our IT infrastructure. You'll identify and promote ideas for improvement, developing and maintaining key relationships with our senior strategic partners and suppliers. You'll maintain a general awareness of developments in the IT infrastructure marketplace, including vendor strategies, and you'll report on their potential impact on government. Assessing proposed solution architecture specifications and change requests, you'll verify delivered technical solutions against what's been previously approved. At all times, you'll ensure alignment with defined technical strategy, architecture roadmap, standards and patterns.
What we're looking for
You're knowledgeable about all technical aspects of IT systems, including voice, data and control networks, servers, storage, and data cent. Crucially, you're a specialist in at least one of these areas. You're experienced in building, configuring and administering virtual and physical MS Windows 2008/2012/2016 servers. And you understand industry best practice approaches to the design, implementation, operation and management of IT systems (for example Agile, Waterfall, ITIL and COBIT). You've worked with cloud-based environments (AWS and MS Azure), and you're no stranger to making informed technical judgements and decisions, relevant to this role.
Help shape a truly digital government
If you're excited by an ever-evolving technological landscape and a fast-moving digital change agenda, this is a fantastic opportunity to apply your skills to do what matters. Here, you'll be helping us respond to the changing needs and expectations of millions of people, delivering services that are simpler, faster and easier to use. And in return, you'll enjoy the fantastic range of benefits the Civil Service has to offer.
