SOCI (Security, Operations & Change Implementation) is a key component of the Group Transformation Enterprise division. we're the center of expertise for the core platform providing the Retail internet banking, public site and mobile app services to our 14+ million active online Retail and Commercial Banking customers. The Operational Performance team within SOCI is responsible for providing the operational workload planning, operational performance insights and live service monitoring functions for our online services.

As a Performance Monitoring Engineer within the Operational Performance, Tooling & Analytics Team, you'll be responsible for the support and development of the current key tool sets (primarily Splunk & AppDynamics APM/EUM). This will predominantly consist of the configuration and development of these tools to enable the Operational Support team to identify and prevent or recover live service incidents on our online services, and provide domain expertise to help extract business and technical insights across our critical online services.

About the role:

You'll work with developers in Agile Value Stream labs and the Splunk platform team to on board new customer journeys and applications into Splunk and AppDynamics, as well as develop the current tool feature sets in line with the Vendor and business roadmaps. You'll also provide SME support during live service incidents, ensuring that the Technical Recovery teams are in possession of all the meaningful insights to enable them to recover service as quickly as possible.

So what would you be doing for us?

You'll manage the day-to-day running of the Splunk tool, including working with the Splunk platform team to define, implement and educate on standard methodologies for logging standards, monitoring of daily data ingestion and providing support for Splunk incidents

You'll liaise with the Agile lab developers to understand new web or mobile app journeys, apps and associated infrastructure stacks and assist with on boarding of Splunk logs in line with standard methodologies and deliver both Operational and business data dashboards and alerts

You'll drive the delivery of new feature sets, working closely with partner resources to run POC/POV exercises on new Splunk/AppDynamics roadmap functionality, helping to build business cases for investment and taking ownership of the planning and delivery to live

You'll seek opportunities to innovate with new capabilities in the market and tool integrations, performing experiments and POC exercises to drive best in class monitoring and insight capabilities

You'll work with your Operational Performance colleagues to maintain the AppDynamics APM (Application Performance Management)/EUM (End User Management) tool, working with partner resources, Agile labs, IT colleagues and wider partner groups to continually improve the insights delivered by the tool

You'll help plan and deliver coaching for internal and wider colleagues, enabling the various Agile labs and Value Streams to deliver and develop their own dashboard and monitoring capabilities, helping to deliver our strategy to become a 'Centre Of Perfection' for the operational performance monitoring and insights

What we need from you?

Strong Splunk skills and experience, including: designing, engineering and administering Splunk content/building Splunk reports/understanding of plug-ins, loggers & connectors/dashboard development with visual insights suitable for varied partners (IT & Business)

Experience in using and developing application performance monitoring solutions (eg. AppDynamics/Dynatrace/New Relic etc)

A "can-do" dedicated attitude to problem solving and providing simplified solutions

Understanding and interpreting business to IT requirements and vice versa

Proven analytical and debugging skills

Experience of working in Unix environments and shell scripting, Java programming, SQL tuning & regex experience

Understanding and experience of internet services technology stacks and a desire to learn new technologies

Experience and confidence in working in fast paced Operational (ITIL), Agile or DevOps environments, including meaningful tool sets (JIRA, Confluence)

Excellent interpersonal, communication and partner management skills, including the ability to clearly articulate and present technical concepts to audiences that vary in seniority and technical acumen

Strong analytical skills, with the ability to dedicatedly create and enhance process flows, documents
