A leading government department is currently recruiting for a Business Analyst who will come on board and be responsible for capturing and documenting functional and non-functional requirements for a broad range of IT Services to enable critical business change and progression. The post holder will work proactively to clearly define and catalogue requirements using a variety of traditional and agile methods dependent on the complexity of requirements. Within this position as the Business Analyst you will work with internal and external stakeholders including third party suppliers and ICT colleagues to translate business requirements for applications management and development and Infrastructure teams ensuring they can be accepted into service.

Key Responsibilities

*Work with business owners to help them analyse and define their functional and non-functional requirements for corporate business systems in clearly understood and unambiguous terms.

*Document, create and maintain the associated requirements catalogue and project pipeline documentation including user story backlogs, process flows and data mapping where appropriate.

*Write user stories with clear acceptance criteria, work with Product Managers to prioritise the user stores within and Product Backlog and provide inputs to agile ceremonies, such as daily stand ups, sprint planning, showcases and retrospectives.

*Document business processes using Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN)

*Investigate potential business solutions available in the marketplace and assess relevant costed off the shelf (COTS) solutions and packages.

*Be an advocate for user focussed design and use of collaboration tools with an understanding and familiarity with agile and GDS user-focussed design principles and associated Project Management Office (PMO) good practice.

*Support effective user acceptance testing by setting criteria and managing resourcing and managing defect management.

Person Specification

*Significant experience and understanding of some or all of corporate business systems such as Enterprise Resource Planning, case management, forensics, intelligence and analytics and of COTS applications/Cloud solutions and a strong commercial awareness in relation to the provision of business solutions.

*Proven experience and understanding of the development lifecycle using both Waterfall and Agile methodologies and associated Project Management Office (PMO) good practice.

*Substantial experience and understanding of requirements capture and prioritisation techniques such as stakeholder analysis and impact analysis.

*Able to use business, data and processing modelling techniques appropriately.

*Familiarity of user focussed design principles and test management good practice and artefacts including guiding users through test planning process, documenting expected behaviours and outputs and managing the relationship between acceptance and defect/backlog management.
