The Role:

In this role you will deliver consultancy on data protection and information management to core stakeholders in managing data protection risk within their areas. You will promote and facilitate data protection awareness and understanding across the organisation through generic and targeted training.

Main Duties:

Provide advice and guidance to business areas on data protection and information asset management, including data protection impact assessments and data sharing.

Process data subject rights requests, including subject access requests and requests for erasure within the statutory deadline. Respond to any other correspondence from members of the public concerning data protection.

Develop clear and user-friendly policies, tools and guidance to assist with data protection compliance and information asset management.

Investigate personal data breaches and provide urgent and authoritative advice to business areas on containment, mitigation and improvements to prevent further breaches. Escalate serious data breaches to the Data Protection Officer in a timely manner.

Raise awareness of data protection and information asset management by developing and delivering generic and targeted training for staff at all levels and actively participating in data protection practitioners group meetings.

Develop and maintain key stakeholder relationships.

Essential Skills:

*Experience in a data protection role, ideally within a large and complex organisation, with a proven track record of identifying opportunities to improve operational processes along with an ability to promote a data protection culture within the organisation;

*The ability to interpret regulatory guidance and to provide analysis and practical, user friendly guidance to business areas;

*The ability to balance a number of different pieces of work, working to right timescales and reacting where required to respond to urgent issues;

*The ability to gather and analyse large volumes of data to understand root cause and assess potential risks; providing a clear view on the actions required to be taken to ensure compliance with data protection laws.;

*Excellent written and oral communication skills, communicating complex or specialist information clearly to a range of audiences;

*Able to work proactively and independently, show initiative and contribute ideas;

*Well organised and able to prioritise workload in line with tight deadlines and work effectively under pressure;

*Excellent team player with ability of working closely with others to deliver results.

*Passion and enthusiasm to follow developments in privacy and data protection, and maintain a professional expertise and personal interest in these subjects.

Desirable Skills:

*Data protection qualifications such as BCS General Data Protection Practitioner Certificate or IAPP CIPP, CIPM, CIPT.
