Secure our new digital future
About us
The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has a vision to build an economy that works for everyone, so that there are great places in every part of the UK for people to work and for businesses to invest, innovate and grow.
There has never been a more exciting time to work in BEIS - especially within Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT). We have only just begun to consider how we might exploit the options presented by the latest technology. This is an exceptional opportunity for you to play your part in guiding the Department into a new digital future.
The role
As Cyber Security Analyst, you’ll oversee and manage the Department’s in-house access to live data, and implement security measures to protect its information systems and networks. Your key responsibilities will include:
Keeping up to date with the latest security and technology developments
Researching and evaluating emerging cyber security threats
Planning for disaster recovery in the event a security breach
Monitoring for attacks, intrusions and unusual or illegal activity
Designing new security systems
Using advanced analytic tools to determine emerging threat patterns and vulnerabilities
Engaging in 'ethical hacking', e.g. simulating security breaches
Identifying potential weaknesses and implementing firewalls and encryption
Monitoring for abuse of permissions by authorised system users
Liaising with stakeholders within DDaT, BEIS and wider government in relation to cyber security
About you
You have a deep understanding of security concepts, which you can apply practically through the design and review of systems architecture. What’s more, you can translate your understanding of complex information to technical and non-technical stakeholders throughout the Department.
When working with risk owners, you can advise - confidently and accurately - on risk impact and tolerance with regards existing and future designs and systems. You demonstrate a deep understanding of a variety of risk methodologies, as well as proportionality of risk.
Benefits
As a Civil Service employee, you’ll be entitled to a large range of benefits, including:
-Regular performance and development reviews
-25 days of annual leave on entry, increasing to 30 days after 5 years
-One further day paid privilege entitlement to mark the Queen’s Birthday
-Flexible working patterns including part- time or time-term working
-Generous paid maternity and paternity leave
-Interest-free season ticket and bicycle loans
-Competitive contributory pension scheme
