Head of Infrastructure Engineering

London

As the Head of Infrastructure Engineering, you will be working for a leader within the Commercial Insurance space and play a critical role in leading the direction in how the business uses and embraces Infrastructure change over the long-term future. As the Head of Infrastructure Engineering, you will also have the autonomy to identify and implement the latest and most cutting-edge technology that can benefit the business.

Main duties

* Create an infrastructure architecture that supports the business and is in alignment with its strategic objectives

* Provide technical direction and strategy for the infrastructure

* Ensure that IT infrastructure delivers a value led service that meets the requirements and Service expectations of the business

* Ensure that roadmaps are defined for all key elements of the IT infrastructure and that plans are in place and acted upon to manage the growth and update of the technology estate

* Create a process of continuous improvement to enhance and develop the Technology infrastructure.

* Ensure that operational standards and in place and adhered to for all key components and processes within the IT Infrastructure with the aim of maintaining a fit for purpose infrastructure

* Ensure effective monitoring systems is in place to ensure that they deliver the appropriate level of alerting and log statistics to enable the effective reliability and capacity management of the environment

* Track and recommend against current and future architecture trends

* Ensure technical review of proposed implementations align with the infrastructure strategy and meet the technical standards

* Identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions

* Ensure disaster recovery is fit for purpose in terms of documentation, process and business continuity - ensure appropriate level of testing is undertaken at an appropriate frequency and capacity is in line with business requirements

* Provide technical subject matter expertise in the event of major or critical incidents.

* Provide signoff authority for infrastructure related changes

* Provide coaching and mentoring to operations and engineering staff and recommend training as appropriate

* Liaise with relevant and associated areas and groups within the business process to establish, support and maintain business relationships and organisational effectiveness

* To undertake any other duties of a similar nature that the company reasonably requests to be performed that are within the expertise and skills of the jobholder. These may be subject to periodic review and any updates and changes to be introduced after consultation with the person concerned

Education/experience

* Excellent knowledge and understanding of the relevant infrastructure technologies and its associated principles, tools and methodologies

* 5 years + experience of working in a large enterprise infrastructure environment

* Experience of working with or in an Insurance, Reinsurance or Finance function would be beneficial

Skills

* Broad knowledge of and experience of Windows technologies including Server platforms, Desktop platforms, Exchange Environments, Active Directory, IIS, Windows Clustering, and VMware Virtualization and Collaboration

* Broad knowledge of network technologies and concepts based on Cisco hardware.

* Knowledge of Storage environments based on HP technologies

* Ability to research, recommend and exploit new and existing infrastructure technologies

* Provide leadership across the enterprise for all supported technology platforms

* Excellent system problem diagnoses skills on both hardware and software

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of stakeholders, including executives, managers and subject matter experts

* Excellent analytical and problem solving skills; ability to take the initiative and identify creative solutions to problems

* Strong influencing and facilitation skills

* Ability to work in a fast-moving environment with rapidly evolving targets

* Good decision-making skills, taking into consideration conflicting opinions and emerging facts

* Excellent people-management skills

* Ability to work in sensitive situations
