The Lead Java Developer is expected to provide leadership to software engineers squads in the scoping, planning, delivery and support of all development activities. The successful applicant will also be responsible for the line management of development squads as well as identifying and supporting talent.

The ideal candidate will have a proven development background in a Web & High volume data management and background of delivering high quality software solution

Key Responsibilities:

* Successfully lead resources in solving complex business needs.

* Plan and monitor all development squads' activities

* Ensure impediments are identified at the earliest opportunity and dealt with to minimise impact on squads.

* Ensure software assets are built and maintained to a high standard

* Liaise with Solution Architect & Principal Developer to ensure enterprise and architectural patterns and processes are followed and to participate in development and evolution of architecture.

* Contribute to the development of technical standards

* Identify products release activities and liaise with internal/external parties to ensure their timely completion.

* Manage hiring, coaching and performance review of developers and their career plan

* Ensure all staff are provided with training and resources needed to perform their jobs to a high standard.

* Ensure all staff are provided with frequent feedback and coaching in order to meet and exceed individual and team performance goals consistently.

* Manage and encourage new ideas from staff to foster a culture of continuous improvements and innovation.

* Empower developers/squads to be accountable and responsible for their own actions and decisions.

Required Skills/Experience:

Essential

* Proficiency in development languages including but not limited to: Java/J2EE 1.8+, JavaScript, XML, SQL.

* Excellent technical leadership, communication and presentation skills.

* Knowledge of big data architectures and analytics

* Experience of on-premise, virtualisation and cloud based infrastructure using Amazon Web Services or Azure.

* Knowledge of System Engineering activities like Build and Deployment automation & infrastructure as code (Ansible, Docker, Terraform).

* Solid knowledge of Security Engineering best practices.

* Agile Software Development, Scrum/Kanban.

Desirable

* Experience with search solutions (ex. Elasticsearch).

* Experience of NoSQL and graph database platforms.

* Micro-service architectures.
