I am recruiting a Nuclear Standards Manager to work for a FTSE 250 Engineering Support Services Organisation in Plymouth. This role functions within their Naval Marine Division, which provides vital engineering services to key clients, such as the Royal Navy.

You would be responsible for supervising a team of 20 Nuclear Engineers and managing the department's objectives and specified labour. This would include managing the equipment resource for the diverse activities across all submarine and radiological areas within the Devonport License Site.

* To manage the Nuclear Standards Branch, ensuring resources are adequate for the task, economically used and that budgets are generated, approved and managed.

* To be accountable to the Chair Reactor Test Group for the financial performance of the department including setting/agreeing budgets, forecasting, and delivering in accordance with the overall submarine programme within Devonport and Clyde.

* Investigate and provide documented reports as required, on nuclear and non-nuclear incidents, occurrences and anomalies associated with submarines.

* To provide support and intelligent advice to Submarine Business Unit Managers on all aspects associated with nuclear and nuclear support systems, components and correct materials usage with the Reactor Compartment.

* To select, procure, maintain and calibrate equipment used throughout the dockyard.

* To provide specialist technical information and monitor and control Nuclear Standards Branch throughout the whole dockyard, including sub-contract services.

* To be the Duly Authorised Person (DAP) and promote a strong safety culture within the department. Also, technical authority for all activities.

* Manage the review of MoD contract documentation for Design Authority Requirements (DAR) for Nuclear Standards Branch activities and plan resources accordingly.

* Attend technical reviews for submarine projects and commercial bid reviews.

* Supervising assembly during the manufacturing process, monitoring product safety and cleanliness standards.

* Interpreting radiographs for welding.

Required Experience

* A minimum of an HNC in an engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.

* Experience of engineering design/build or maintenance of nuclear submarine engineering systems with a mechanical bias.

* Knowledge of product safety awareness.

* Previous leadership or management experience.
