The Office for Students (OfS) was established by the Higher Education and Research Act in 2017 and became fully operational in April 2018. The Resources, Finance & Transformation directorate provides critical services to the OfS to enable the organisation to deliver its strategy.

The directorate ensures that the OfS complies with statutory and other public sector requirements, identifies and manages risks and opportunities and co-ordinates efforts across the organisation to be efficient and effective.

The aim of the role `IT Service Design Manager` is to manage a team that has a key role in ensuring the overall design, efficiency and integrity of the IT service whilst articulating new business requirements and evolving IT delivery capabilities to match these. Key responsibilities include; understanding the high-level picture of how services are delivered, key architectural considerations, the resourcing position, service commitments and security requirements; and agreeing new initiatives to be taken through to service transition ensuring it is in line with the IT strategy.

The key person attributes that are required to fulfil this role include:

- ability to operate strategically and see the broad picture;

- good communication skills;

- credible at senior levels;

- and can exercise judgement and delve into detail if needed.
