Central Office staff work closely with schools, offering a wealth of expertise to underpin schools’ own knowledge. Our specialist departments, including HR, finance, technology, strategy and performance, estates, and marketing, work alongside dedicated school improvement teams. By joining us, you will provide ongoing support to schools, ultimately improving the outcomes of our pupils.

We are looking for a highly adaptable, technical problem-solver, able to work with autonomy and independence and to communicate successfully with educational professionals.

In all likelihood, you will be currently working in a school or similar context, in an IT support role and are looking for the next step in your career.

This is a field-based role that supports schools’ local IT staff with technology projects and problem solving through your own interactions and through line management of a team of 4 field based staff.

As the Senior Technology Specialist at United Learning, you will work with a number of schools across this region and supervise you team with their allocated schools to help ensure their technology is fit for purpose:

Helping local IT implement technically challenging or medium-scale projects, including their procurement;

Carrying out technical audits of key systems and processes, to identify threats to a school’s effective operations;

Supporting and challenging local IT and school management to implement any necessary changes to address identified problems;

Providing input to IT estate refresh planning, allowing the school to budget to sustain a highly effective technology infrastructure/ devices;

Giving advice and training to local IT staff, to develop the school’s capacity;

Offering additional short-term expert capacity in times of crisis.

The Senior Technology Specialist post reports to the Head of Schools’ IT Strategy. United Learning has schools across the country, the focus for this position is to cover the Kent, East and West Sussex and Surrey area. The post holder could be based in any location able to effectively serve our schools across this area - we are open to flexible working to secure the right candidate.

The Technology Department is based in our Peterborough office, with many colleagues working in the field directly with schools. The team has a diverse set of functions, from running critical back-office systems, through envisioning and delivering strategic projects which cut across United Learning’s activities, to the support of schools’ use of technology for teaching and learning.
