Ordnance Survey has an opportunity available for a Lead Engineer to join the team based in Southampton. About the role:

We are looking for a Lead Engineer with a strong background in Azure Cloud Technologies and C#, to join our Engineering group. You will bring a depth of knowledge in microservices architecture, continuous delivery and Azure technologies to build scalable, performant systems that are easy to maintain and support. Specifically, your technical knowledge will cover technologies such as C#, Azure Functions and Cosmos DB. Experience around Deployment, Debugging, Testing, Scaling and Monitoring modern cloud-based systems is desired.

Providing technical leadership, is a key aspect of your role and you will look to continuously improve the engineering capability in all aspects of the engineering lifecycle through coaching and mentoring. You will have the opportunity to work with stakeholders (internal and external), Project Managers and Delivery Managers to help shape the project delivery and the team. You will be required to lead an agile team to understand business requirements and develop the appropriate solution that meets business needs.

There will be the opportunity to provide 3rd Line level support for existing Live systems. Therefore, the abilities to learn quickly and think creatively are essential.

Skills and experience required to be our Lead Engineer:

You will need to demonstrate your track record against the following essential criteria:

- Expert knowledge and skills in software engineering & industry best practice like TDD, BDD and automated testing

- Expert knowledge in C# and Azure technologies

- Demonstrable ability to lead, coach and mentor engineering teams

- Excellent track record in influencing key business & technical stakeholders

- Very good track record in development of technical strategies

- Proven track record in implementing new engineering techniques within development teams
