Position: Purchaser

Location: Manchester

Salary: £19,000 per annum

Job type: Permanent

This role is between 3-6 months.

To support the existing purchasing function.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The main aspects of the role are to support

Through the transition of a system change (to Sage)

Through the implementation of MRP based ordering

To develop and reduce lead-times of manufactured, bought in and imported items, both finished goods and raw materials

To implement and manage a PPV (purchased price variance) project to continually improve costs

To review all items and to manage long lead-time raws by

Dual sourcing

Strategic stocks

Kanban arrangements

JIT supply

Outsourcing/Insourcing where applicable

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS/EXPERIENCE:

High level communication skills and an ability to liaise with internal customers and external suppliers & contractors in a professional manner

Negotiation Skills, and ability to identify opportunities for cost savings

Ability to identify and carry out cost down projects, dual sourcing and Kanban methods

Financial skills including ability to manage within ethical framework, using financial data and able to

Well developed computer skills and ability to manage MPS/MRP systems

Able to work as part of a team

Ability to prepare reports

Experience of working to internal customer deadlines

Experience of general administration and time management

Flexible in working arrangements

Qualification in Purchasing or demonstration of similar valid experience

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS/EXPERIENCE:

Ability to develop systems and procedures for continual service improvements

Ability to develop performance measurement and set targets and goals to ensure continuous improvement, to develop and work with data and relevant KPIs

Health and Safety legislation applicable to employees working for the department

Microsoft software applications and especially high-end skills in MS Excel and Word

General experience of purchasing in a manufacturing and warehouse operation, with particular experience of managing overseas purchasing arrangements

Experience of operating computerised stores management programmes and systems

KEY SKILLS:

Well-developed computer skills and ability to manage MPS/MRP systems Experience of working to internal customer deadlines, 3-6 months
