Provide the information we need to keep the nation safe

This could be one of the most important roles you ever have. As an Indexer working in our Counter Terrorism (CT) Command, you’ll be putting vital information at our officers’ fingertips. This data can help them better protect the public and could even save lives. With so much at stake, you must be good at the job - and highly dedicated.

Every day, you’ll be working with information that supports national CT efforts. You’ll review documents for indexing and link relevant intelligence to make information searches easier.

The skill of indexing is increasingly important in a digital environment, as it’s a key part of the broader process of metadata creation and data recovery. It’s therefore important that you’ve got suitable skills: the ability to scan text, write a precis in clear English and enter data quickly. You’ll be assessing a variety of CT intelligence to national standards, so you need to be accurate, IT-literate and well organised too. Ideally you’ll know about good indexing practice and data management too, but it’s dedication that counts. We’ll expect you to meet challenging deadlines and give advice on indexing to colleagues at the Met. If you’re qualified to GCSE level C in Maths and English (or equivalent), you could soon be part of our specialist team.

To apply, please visit our website to download a role specific information pack and click on the link to complete and submit the online application form.

Completed applications must be submitted by 23.55pm on Friday 21st September.

We view diversity as fundamental to our success. To tackle today’s complex policing challenges, we need a workforce made up from all of London’s communities. Applications from across the community are therefore essential.
