Project Manager (Whole Body Vibrations & Noise)

Poole, Dorset

£45,500 - £53,529 (dependent on experience)

Our client is the charity that saves lives at sea.

They are looking for an experienced multi-disciplined Project Manager to lead their Whole Body Vibration, Noise and Anthropometrics Project to address the risks associated with ‘whole body vibration’ and noise as well as the associated anthropometric and human factor issues that affect how their people interact with equipment while delivering a world class rescue service.

By the nature of their activities, our client exposes people to ‘whole body vibration’ and noise, both on land and while afloat. Although there are engineering controls that are always under review and continuous on-going improvements within their engineering department, these alone cannot reduce risk to acceptable levels by themselves. Behaviours, attitudes, individual characteristics and understanding of the risks all play a pivotal part in safe operation of our client’s vessels and associated equipment. This project will ensure all these factors are addressed and their people have the right level of understanding and act in appropriate ways for the conditions they find themselves in to ensure that risks are reduced to an acceptable level whilst undertaking the critical work of saving lives.

As a Project Manager, your role will include the day-to-day running of the project to deliver requirements as well as the usual project management activities of planning, monitoring, reporting, escalating, etc. in accordance with the organisation’s Project Management processes based on standard project methodologies (PRINCE2 / MSP).

You will need to co-ordinate cross-stream activities and create a holistic, sustainable approach to managing the risks associated with exposure to ‘whole body vibration’, noise and related anthropometric and human factor issues to ensure that our client meets their moral and legal obligations to their volunteers and employees. This will involve managing and co-ordinating activities across the whole organisation including engineering, asset management, human resources, training, occupational health, operational policy and lifesaving delivery. This role will also involve collaborating with external organisations to investigate best practices in other sectors and share learning as appropriate.

To be considered, you will need:

- Substantial senior experience in delivering large scale Business Improvement Programmes with tangible outputs and benefits

- Knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of project and programme management

- Experience of the whole programme lifecycle, from the scoping through to implementation and benefits Realisation

- The ability to motivate the organisation and project team to meet stretch deadlines

- A project management Practitioner Qualification, such as a PRINCE2 and/or MSP

- A full, valid driving licence

The role is based on an initial 36 month contract to be based from our client’s Poole HQ site reporting to the SHE Policy Manager. There will be requirement for occasional travel as part of the programme.

Our client’s staff and volunteers have been saving lives at sea without prejudice for nearly 200 years. They respect and value diversity of background, skills and perspectives within their teams, and consider it essential to help deliver a world-class lifesaving service. They are an inclusive organisation and welcome applications from everyone. In addition to having the skills needed for the role, our client also looks for applicants who share their commitment to living their values (trustworthy, courageous, selfless, and dependable), and helping work towards their goal of halving drowning in the UK and Ireland by 2024. This involves a growing commitment to preventative action, using expertise to work in partnership with communities locally, nationally and internationally to prevent drowning.
