Various sources (I sound like the Daily Mail…) have claimed that the average job seeker spends approximately 90 seconds reading a job advert before deciding whether to press 'next' or 'apply'. So with that in mind, I wanted to try and craft something that is short (and sweet), informative and hopefully something that gets your attention.

Here it goes…

I am working in partnership with a global enterprise in the Cheshire area who are looking to recruit a Lead Architect with ServiceNow experience for a brand new product function. The role will be based out of their technology HQ in Knutsford and offers a unique opportunity to both define and own the technical architecture and standards for a flagship ServiceNow offering within the organisation.

As the Lead Architect, your role will involve taking ownership for a globally-distributed product roadmap, creating and maintaining the technical strategy whilst working in a hugely challenging environment. You will be expected to lead product evaluations, proof of concept testing and product deployments, leading distributed product teams and getting involved in the organisation's service management estate.

In terms of the role fundamentals, rather than just regurgitating the formal JD, I wanted to highlight the four main focus areas below:

Stakeholder Management - First and foremost, this role is heavily stakeholder-facing with a huge part of it essentially evangelising ServiceNow products throughout the organisation. You will be expected to proactively engage with a variety of stakeholders (both technical and non-technical), working in partnership with them to agree mutual priorities and improvement opportunities in order to ensure value is being delivered. A proven track record working with senior stakeholders is therefore crucial.

ServiceNow Architecture - The title of the role says it all… proven commercial experience of ServiceNow architecture and/or ServiceNow consultancy is crucial. The role will involve owning and delivering a global ServiceNow product rollout/transformation piece so you must have extensive experience as a key technical resource for the delivery of large-scale ITSM solutions, ideally in an enterprise environment.

E2E Architecture - Knowledge of a wide range of architectural frameworks/disciplines (N-Tier, SOA, Microservices, BCS, TOGAF etc.) is crucial, as is a background in Enterprise Architecture and/or hands on experience as a Technical Architect. You should have extensive experience of end-to-end design and should be able to craft detailed and complex architectural strategy roadmaps with ease.

Leadership - Providing a high level of both people management and technology leadership is a key aspect of this role so a proven track record leading product teams is key. Your role will involve working with Infrastructure Engineers, Technical Architects, Software Engineers and Product Owners (to name but a few), so commercial experience leading multi-faceted teams is key. You will essentially act as an escalation point within the product function so they are essentially looking for a strong and confident leader with a genuine desire to improve people.

In return for all of the above (and I appreciate it is quite a lot of content… ), you will be rewarded with a highly competitive base salary, 10% non-contributory pension, 25 days holiday and a discretionary annual bonus, as well as a raft of other perks.

Did that clock under 90 seconds?
