ROLE:           DEVOPS ENGINEER

DURATION: 6 MONTHS

RATE:            £400 - £450

 

The Role

We are looking for people who enjoy exploring new technologies, developing new skills, using industry leading development techniques and building systems that really matter to our customers?  We need people who like a wide variety of work, who enjoy a challenge and are passionate about high quality software engineering

 

Team

We run an agile DevOps team where you will be responsible for the architecture, design, development, testing, deployment and in life support of your systems. You will be expected to deliver these critical systems safely and responsively.  

 

Skills

The skills listed below are examples of skills currently used but the ability to pick up new technologies is more important than a particular skill:

Languages: Java, Ruby, Go, Perl, others as required

Practices: Test driven development, Agile experience, continuous integration, continuous deployment, DevOps, automation.

Technologies: Amazon AWS, Software defined networking, Docker, Linux admin, Ansible.

 

Attributes

You will be expected to:

Be an experienced software developer with a solid understanding of the importance of test driven development, shared code ownership, pairing, agile principles, and the management of technical debt.

Delight customers by delivering rapid agile change while the team work at a sustainable pace.

Be passionate about technology.

Demonstrate experience of working closely with customers to deliver reliable and maintainable solutions.

Have a keen eye for detail and care deeply about building reliable and well-tested systems.

Be curious and passionate about troubleshooting, actively seeking out problems and solving them.

Have a proven ability to learn new technologies quickly.

Have an understanding of the systems that underpins Broadband

Contribute to the software engineering community.

Be an active participant in the running of the team, helping our area be a great place to work.

Engage with the wider business in order to identify opportunities for future work for your team.

Experiment with new technologies to help push the boundaries of what your team is building.

Take time out from coding to coach and mentor members of the team.

 

Experience

5+ years in software engineering

3+ years of agile, devops working environment

 

Qualifications

Degree level education

Relevant industry body memberships
