Software engineering at the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) is a multifaceted challenge. Our world-leading ocean geospatial products keep commercial ships, navies and maritime organisations safe, and maximise their effectiveness. Here, you will help deliver new technology platforms that drive all manner of economic development, resource exploration, scientific, security and defence projects. And keep us at the cutting-edge well into the 2020s.

We want you to harness the potential of cloud technologies, big data and agile practices. You will look to automate everything; keeping your commercial and defence customers firmly in mind as you create digital services, data solutions and software for desktop, web and mobile.

In practice, you will guide colleagues across our Technology Production Engineering team on automation issues, improving their ability to write test automation code and finding them new tools and techniques - constantly championing good standards. In terms of stack, we use Visual Studio, C#, Java, Ruby, Spec flow, Team Foundation Service, Jenkins, Hadoop, Selenium, SoapUI, Postman, Cucumber and Jmeter.

It is something that will give you a chance to stretch your capabilities. Not least as we will actively encourage you take time away from work monthly to improve your skills and gain new certifications.

To take this on, you will need to be an authority on C# or Java, building or maintaining automated testing frameworks and well-structured test automation code. It is also important that you know your way around software testing within an Agile Framework - anything from BDD to automated and risk-based testing.

As our in-house specialist, you will need a flair for developing those around you. In the wider sense, that passion for the work will help to strengthen the entire maritime industry.

To apply, please send us a competency statement no more than 250 words in length for each of the below criteria:

› Delivering at least five professional software testing services within an Agile Framework (e.g. BDD, automated or risk-based testing) and understanding the agile software delivery lifecycle.

› Coding C# and or Java and its core APIs.

› Building or maintaining an automated testing framework.

› Writing well-structured test automation code, and creating robust and reusable tests.

› Changing and improving processes and products.

› Making effective decisions.

Please send your application (competency statements, equality and diversity and CV) to the recruitment inbox by clicking on the Apply button.
