Oracle Database Analyst (DBA)

Location: Leeds

Rate: Negotiable

IR 35 Status: Outside

An experienced Oracle Database Administrator is required to join a small team of Oracle Database Administrators at Leeds City Council's ICT department. The team provide day to day support for many of the Council's key systems (e.g. SAP Payroll, Children's Services, Adult Services, GIS). The team also provide technical resource for major projects for which Oracle DBA skills are required.

We are currently upgrading the remaining legacy Oracle databases we have to Oracle 12c. We are also migrating legacy web deployed applications to WebLogic 12 and Oracle Forms & Reports. As such, it is essential that you hold the relevant skills and experience to allow you to lead on this upgrade and migration work.

It would be advantageous if you also have experience with NetApp SMO technology as we have recently moved across to using this for our backup strategy.

Good general DBA skills are required to assist the team and to develop and enhance procedures for ongoing DBA support. Experience of the following would be expected: OEM administration and upgrade, RMAN administration, Application Express, skills in security and performance tuning. Good UNIX shell scripting ability would also be an advantage as it would be expected that administration scripts would accompany some of the work you'd be tasked with.

We are very keen that as well as performing the work and providing solutions to problems, that the successful candidate provides good documentation to allow the team to further support those areas which are new to them in terms of experience. Allied to documentation, we are also keen that there is ongoing knowledge transfer to our technical staff. Taking this into account we would expect you to be a strong communicator both verbally and with written English.
