Support the nation’s marine industries

The United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) is on an exciting mission. As a civil service organisation with a commercial focus, we are committed to maintaining our industry-leading reputation for providing high-quality marine geospatial information. This information is vital to the marine industries, helping the nation’s sailors navigate the waters and bringing the fishing industries home safely every day. But that’s not all we do - our work also supports global trade efficiency, it enables scientific research and aids our understanding of the environment. And it is used by the UK’s defence navies - so your input will directly contribute to the UK’s ongoing success and safety.

Working with the 2nd Line Support Team and the Service Request Team, you will provide a high quality day-to-day ICT support service to UKHO’s internal customers. Working with computers, laptops, tablets, mobile devices and printers, you will ensure staff are able to fulfil their duties with well-functioning equipment, trouble-shooting hardware and software problems as necessary. You will ideally do this remotely, but will need to visit customers in their offices when necessary - so you will need the flexibility to adapt your working day to their needs. Installing software and security patches and updates (both manually and via automated tools), you will also technically configure PC hardware, operating systems and file and print services, and you will take responsibility for the network configuration of printers, email and audio-visual equipment.

This is a very social role, so we will expect you to have outstanding communication skills, with the ability to talk customers through their ICT problems and provide technical advice to the technology division as required. A team-player with the willingness to develop and share your knowledge, you will have experience of providing technical support and managing a quality service. You will also have a good knowledge of SCCM and Citrix or equivalent and you will be willing to attain BPSS and SC clearance. While this is a permanent position, you are invited to apply for it in either a full-time, part-time or job-share capacity.

There is huge scope to grow and develop in the supportive UKHO team. We want you to achieve your career goals and will support you with plenty of training and development opportunities, so if this is a role that you think you could thrive in, then we’d love to hear from you. You will need to include a competency statement in your application, detailing how you meet the following criteria:

Changing and Improving

Building Capability for All

Managing a Quality Service

Experience in Technical Support

Experience in SCCM and Citrix or equivalent.
