I am working in partnership with a global organisation in the heart of Cheshire who are looking to recruit an experienced TechnicalProduct Manager. The role is hybrid, based in their Knutsford office and offering a unique opportunity to work on some cutting edge products, enterprise in scale and ambitious in their goals. Moreover, the role is technology-centric, focusing on working across a number of key platforms in the organisation and is therefore crucial to their 2018 headcount plans.

But enough about the company.

This, like any decent job ad, is ultimately about you.

Specificaly, what you will be doing and what you will be expected to bring to the table.

So rather than simply copying and pasting the job description, I wanted to focus on some key areas that underpin this role and demonstrate the sort of things I am looking for you to demonstrate.

Here goes nothing...

Stakeholder Management - First and foremost, this role is highly stakeholder-facing and the vast majority of this role will involve working with stakeholders (both techical and non-technical), even up to C-suite level. You will be tasked with managing stakeholder expectations, working with key decision-makers throughout the product development lifecycle and bridging the gap between all of the different areas of the engineering funtion. Excellent communication/influencing skills and a proven background working with stakeholders is therefore essential to be considered for this role.

Product Delivery - A huge focus will also involve working across the full delivery lifecycle, working with the business to ensure products are delivered within budget and in the pre-assigned timescales. Although this isn't a Project Manager role, you will be expected to ensure that teams deliver flawless changes to the products in support of customer requirements, as well as driving collaboration across the all impacted teams to ensure successful delivery. Demonstrating a background working on the successful delivery of products is therefore something they are looking for when screening prospective applicants.

Technical Background - Your role will involve working closely with Software Engineers, QA, Architects and DevOps Engineers so a technical background is crucial to be considered for this role. Unlike more business-facing Product Manager roles, this role will see you liaising with technical people on a daily basis so a background in either application development or software testing is therefore an important requirement for any potential applicant.

Product Roadmapping & Strategy - As with any Product Manage role, a large portion of your responsibiiities will lie with the actual product roadmap. Rather, you will be expected to drive and influence the product road map, indicating the future direction of the product, whilst making sure that the technical/business requirements are aligned at all times. There is a large amount of product ownership associated with this and it is a great chance to get involved at a high-level, ensuring the overall company roadmap is followed.

Agile Methodologies - As with most organisations these days, this organisation is on something of an Agile journey and they are admittdly pretty realistic about how they implement Agile - i.e. they are fully aware that they will never be 'fully Agile' or 'pure Agile' (if that is even a thing anymore), but they are driving Agile in the areas where it can be fully realised and this role will involve adding to that journey. This Agile transformation can only be successful via recruiting the right people, so you should be able to demonstrate an ability to mentor/coach Agile technigues, as well as wider commercial experience with various methods/processes (e.g. SAFE, Scrum, Kanban, TDD, BDD, Continuous Integration etc.).

Quite a lot of stuff to take in I agree.

But don't worry, this isn't all one way.

In return, they offer a number of excellent perks and benefits. First and foremost, they offer a competitve base salary alongside a discretionary annual bonus that is performance-based (company, employee). They also offer a non-contributory pension (10%) alongside private healthcare, life assurance and flexible working hours. You will also be given the opportunity to work from home.

So if you have decided not to venture outdoors and brave the rain/snow/other random weather condition, then why not spend some time applying for this role!
