The role of IT&S Business Analyst will be key in the delivery of a program of IT projects, with a focus on IT&S Institute Operational Applications deliverables. A key activity will be to define requirements for these projects that are looking at existing and new Operational Applications.

As the BA, you will work with operational, administrative and IT&S functions to ensure operational applications projects are delivered to customer quality expectations.

You will need to be comfortable creating & analysing business requirements documents, modelling business data structures and integrations, assessing and documenting current and future practices/processes and data flows. You will also need to be competent drafting logical diagrams, architecture schemas and writing functional specifications and use cases including detailed data and user requirements. You will be required to provide business analysis input from benefits case through to realisation. You will lead the facilitation of workshops and other stakeholder groups, as required. You will capture and prioritise requirements and lead analysis on solution design and validation, testing and go-live readiness support.

You must be able to convey technical ideas, concepts and procedures in clear, concise and accurate English, and be able to manipulate text and images to create well-structured documentation that is easily absorbed by the target audience. You will be a leading driver in cross Institute collaboration, and be the face of the PMO team when discussing the approach to technical requirements across the Crick - with the confidence to propose and challenge solutions. Wherever possible you will be championing the Business Analysis function in the Crick.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

These include but are not limited to:

         •       Bridge between business users and technical colleagues on the feasibility and impact of proposed solutions, approaches and technical changes, including the assessment of new technologies.

         •       Produce business cases and benefits management plans in conjunction with sponsors

         •       Elicit, assess and prioritise user requirements and processes through workshops, interviews and other elicitation methods. Provide functional specifications and any other design documentation needed to ensure the successful specification of development requirements and verify that design meets the requirements.

         •       Work closely with business stakeholders to ensure accurate gathering of requirements and liaise closely with IT&S and external supplier technical teams, to ensure design solution meets customer quality expectations, including test validation and effective change management controls.

         •       Elicit and model requirements, use case diagrams & notations, mapping data flows, entity relationship diagrams (ERM), logical data and class modelling techniques. Write test plans and co-ordinate and conduct user testing and reporting

         •       Deliver system, data, integrations and business analysis expertise in line with agreed PMO processes and standards

         •       Deliver exemplar analysis material on a wide range of operational application upgrade and enhancement projects using both agile and hybrid Prince2 methodologies

         •       Manage small scale IT projects within PRINCE2 and ITIL change and release environments.

         •       Supporting the Project Manager as and when required

         •       Gain understanding of how Operational Applications team functions and how they interact with Institute Operational teams (HR, Fin, FM, etc.)

KEY EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES

The ideal applicant will have proven substantial and successful BA experience bridging between operational stakeholders and technical system and infrastructure teams, working to Prince2 project management methodologies and ITIL change and release principles. A thorough knowledge of working with COTS systems, data and business analysis modelling techniques is essential. It is expected that the successful applicant will also have experience of the test cycle and managing test execution and change readiness for promotion to business as usual including the production of IT support documentation and user instructions. In addition, experience of leading BA good practices, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively are essential.

Essential skills/experience

         •       Proven track record as a Business Analyst in the Technology industry

         •       Recently worked as a Business Analyst in IT/Business operational environment

         •       Experience of eliciting, analysing, prioritising and documenting business requirements and iteratively tracking them through the delivery lifecycle

         •       Experience of modelling requirements, writing use case diagrams & notations, mapping data flows, and producing entity relationship diagrams, logical data and class modelling techniques and other technical analysis focused documentation

         •       Ability to convey operational ideas, concepts and procedures to create well-structured documentation that is easily understood by target users

         •       Strong Stakeholder Management skills with a proven ability to work with senior stakeholders across multiple business functions

         •       Experience building and sustaining effective professional working relationships within IT and wider business environment

         •       Proven system, data, integrations and business analysis expertise

         •       Leading on a variety of concurrent business analysis assignments

         •       Experience of working with Commercial off the shelf (COTS) systems, whether SaaS, cloud hosted or on premise

         •       Experience of working on multiple projects concurrently

Desired skills/experience

         •       Hold recognised Business Analysis and Project Management qualifications such as ISEB BA, Prince2, ITIL and provide examples of significant equivalent practical experience

         •       Previous experience in an academic/research environment.

         •       Experience conducting feasibility studies, options and making persuasive recommendations to senior stakeholders

         •       Writing compelling business cases and providing robust business benefit management approaches
