EDF Energy have an exciting opportunity to join the Research &Development (R&D) UK Centre team. The team are highly collaborative, dynamic and creative with a personal commitment to helping create a sustainable energy system.
The R&D Digital Technology Lead will act as the principal expert on all digital technologies and will provide overall responsibility for the team’s tools, techniques and technology choices. The role will ensure that the team remains at the cutting edge and that its tools and services are appropriate and well-maintained. The role also involves management of digital projects for EDF Energy.
Supporting the R&D Digital Innovation Team by introducing new ideas, negotiating with Business Units to accelerate the delivery of projects and supervise external providers, as well as initiating rapid prototyping of new technologies, working with the team’s developers, data scientists and designers.
Having a good understanding of the energy sector will be an advantage when making recommendations on proof of concepts based on data gathered and new ideas for the portfolio will be a key part of the role, along with making decisions on technologies and designs adopted by projects. It is key that the successful applicant builds and maintains a technology radar for the team that can be shared with colleagues across EDF Group, promoting the Digital Innovation team internally and externally through workshops, hackathons, presentations and other forms of engagement.
EDF Energy are looking for a candidate that has a creative flair and an up-to-date knowledge of industry software, a passion for Research and Development and will enjoy working with universities to co-supervise PhD, Masters and undergraduate students on topics relevant to the team and company. Enthusiasm in delivering exciting digital projects is a must!
The successful candidate will:
Understand the digital ecosystem and the applications of existing and emerging technologies
Anticipate the strategy of the large players of the sector
Apply new technologies in apps and mobile industries and cross-platform technologies
Work with HTML5, CSS, Javascript, PHP and cloud services (software, platforms and infrastructure)
Have worked with data analysis, data warehouse, big data technologies
Understand the lifecycle of overall digital projects, from idea to market roll out
Demonstrate achievement of practical realisation of digital project
Work with user centred design and design thinking methodologies
Have an existing professional network in the digital field.
