We're looking for an exceptional Networks Associate Infrastructure Engineer to help us make a difference to our planet.

Our Networks Associate Infrastructure Engineer will work a hybrid pattern of homeworking and 2-3 days per week in Exeter HQ.

As our Networks Associate Infrastructure Engineer, your starting salary will be £24146.00 and you will have opportunities to progress to £26641.00 over time. New joiners to the Met Office will start on the salary band minima.

In addition you will be paid £2,500 per annum as a market supplement to reflect the demand for your skills. You will be paid this market driven allowance from April 2022 until March 2024 in your monthly pay whilst performing this role.

Your total reward package is potentially worth up to £36,500 annually, which includes basic salary, market supplement, potential corporate bonus and employer pension contributions.

Job Purpose

As our Networks Associate Infrastructure Engineer, you will work with cutting edge technology, helping to keep Met Office employees and contractors connected both internally and to the outside world and supporting our world-leading scientific capabilities.

The key duties are:

Install, document, maintain and troubleshoot networking equipment.

Assist in the supervision of network engineering works, at Exeter HQ and remotely.

Respond to and resolve incidents, investigating and diagnosing complex network problems, working with users, other staff and suppliers as appropriate.

Implement changes as required by the business to meet the demands of systems delivery, including content switch and firewall configuration.

The maintenance of local and wide area networks for communication of data, voice, text or images within one or more computer systems.

Work closely with experts and lead network specialists within the Met Office.

Essential Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

Fast learner with an aptitude for quickly understanding and solving problems and knowing when to seek help.

Effective planning and communication with users and colleagues.

A real enthusiasm for working in IT, ideally with experience of networking technologies.

A drive to develop your skills.

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

Technical support experience with proven enterprise networking technical ability.

An understanding of ITIL concepts, particularly change and incident management.

An understanding of network security and a demonstrable knowledge of firewalls, secure access and secure configuration.

Good foundation knowledge and confidence with:

Windows & Linux Terminal

Python programming skills

We operate an on-call roster in Technology to provide 24/7/365 support to respond to operational service requirements.
