The successful candidate will be driven, passionate and able to help develop innovative and effective approaches to solve our clients' most critical business challenges. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES ETL Development Work closely with colleagues in a cross-functional data science team to design and develop ETL processes and pipelines for analytical software products. Drive the development of ETL development best practice within the team and mentor more junior members of the team. Initiate, and contribute to, a team mentality of high professional standards and continuous process improvement. Continuous Professional Development. Rapid prototyping and Agile principles. Client Relationships Models and frames business scenarios that are meaningful and which impact on clients' critical business processes and decisions Presenting and depicting the rationale of findings in simple, engaging, and easy to understand business terms to a diverse group of stakeholders. EXPERIENCE In-depth knowledge of high throughput programming in Python, Java or Scala. In-depth knowledge of at least one SQL dialect (preferably Postgres or MySQL). Building parallelised algorithms for large (multi-TB) unstructured datasets in distributed architectures (e.g. text, image, video, audio, log or sensor data). Working with diverse data formats in differing use cases (e.g. xsv, json, Avro, rc, orc or parquet) Working in cloud environments (e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure) Hadoop/Spark frameworks (especially Spark, Hive, Presto, Impala or Drill, preferably in EMR, CDH, MapR or HDP distributions) and other big data technologies. Developing business cases for stakeholders. Mentoring junior data engineers; encouraging team-wide diffusion of knowledge and being a source of analytical best practice.
