Enhance policing with data
It's not just our thousands of staff and officers who keep London safe. These days, it's also data - a key strategic asset for the Met. That's why you'll be so important to our team as a Data Engineer. A skilled professional, you'll provide the information we need to protect a vast and vibrant city.
The Met is increasingly data-driven, with a well-established Data Office. We want you to improve the range, quality and usability of the information that our Data Office provides.
Day to day, you'll be designing, building and maintaining automated workflows that extract, process and present data from corporate systems to meet specific business requirements. This may take the form of a simple request for data, a workflow to look at data quality or a Tableau dashboard that presents performance information.
As the Data Office supplies geographic data, much of your work could involve dealing with location-based information. For example, you could be geocoding data sources so they can be viewed on a map, or maintaining the business data sources of map data from agencies such as the Ordnance Survey.
At the core of this work is the ability to write SQL script. You'll use it to transform, aggregate and normalise data, and to create reporting processes that are as efficient as possible. You'll also need experience of using SSIS, Alteryx or FME to create automated reporting solutions. And you should be able to re-engineer manual data flows to enable repeatable use.
Along with technical skills, you'll bring a gift for collaboration and communication. Teamwork is vital, and you'll be building strong working relationships.
Discover a fascinating role that's essential to the success of the Met. As part of our team, you can expect a range of benefits plus excellent training and the chance to develop.
