The Software Engineering Manager Role: + Line management of team members including conducting career development reviews, providing career guidance and performance management.
+ Management of resourcing across projects, matching and assigning team members to appropriate roles, attending resourcing meetings and liaising with Account Directors, Project and Programme managers as appropriate.
+ Resourcing employees: assign, direct, and evaluate their work; and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence.
+ Recruiting employees: selection, testing, interviewing and maintaining the right employee blend
+ Development and retention of software developers, through hiring, mentoring (including succession planning) as well as the identification and organisation of training.
+ Create standards, processes and reference solutions for the engineering and technical work performed in the department in conjunction with the Head of Commerce Engineering
+ Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenses, undertaking contract reviews, and making decisions about the purchase of tools or 3rd party services.
+ Presales including presenting and explaining proposals, reports, and findings to clients.
+ Set strategic and technical goals within broad outlines provided by senior management.
+ In conjunction with your teams identifying and setting out best practice guidelines and reviewing team output to ensure adherence and consistency.
+ Promote the benefits of good engineering practices and act as a champion for the engineering team both within the business and externally.
+ Investigate opportunities to exploit approaches that will have a measurable effect on process effectiveness, with associated benefits to the business.

We need you to be really great at: + In depth Knowledge of development practices within the Software Delivery Lifecycle ideally within a Commerce environment
+ Experienced with Front End OR Back End technologies (React or PHP/Java)
+ Experience of leading and managing teams within a development setting
+ Experience in interviewing and assessment of candidates at all levels
+ Ability to drive change in a given programme or project and be able to articulate the value add
+ An advocate of code quality, Continuous Improvement and industry recognised Best Practices
+ Be experienced in code and unit test reviews and have experience of using static analysis tools and make recommendations in this area
+ Excellent knowledge of Agile development practices
+ Strong communication skills with all the key stakeholders to ensure the Engineering team vision is understood and implemented correctly.
+ Flexible with the ability to and work under pressure
+ Proactive, strong-minded, quick thinker and assertive
+ Ability to motivate a team, recognise good talent and bring out the best out of each individual
+ A mature and professional individual who is self-motivated and enthusiastic
+ Excellent communicator, influencing skills and negotiation skills to get management buy-in on ideas and concepts
+ A hands-on approach to task delivery
+ Excellent planning and work prioritisation skill
+ The ability to be calm, when all about you are not If you know any of this even better: + Previous experience using platforms like Magento, HCL Commerce or Hybris
+ Experience working through differing methodologies, including Agile, Hybrid and Waterfall Approach
+ Experience of managing suppliers and have evidence of increasing the value received
