At NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT), our ambition is to ensure that more people receive the organ transplants they desperately need, receive the right blood transfusions at the right time and get the best specialist support and products to save or improve their lives. Doing things better depends on more innovation and greater flexibility, particularly in the area of IT.  Digital, Data and Technology powers every aspect of our work, from building and maintaining a large and loyal donor base to matching organ donations with recipients, to enabling the blood manufacturing process and, ultimately, supporting high-performing operations.

About the role:

You'll create a robust, scalable platform technology strategy that ensures our technical environment and infrastructure aligns with current and future requirements.  This means understanding the needs of diverse technical and business stakeholders, as well as assessing dependencies, risks and issues. Working closely with different delivery teams, as well as third-party suppliers, you'll ensure that builds, patches, data refreshes and daily management   of our environments are fully planned and co-ordinated so that we can develop, test and runour products and services and therefore realise our blood technology modernisation programme.

About you:

We are looking for candidates who have significant environment management experience, who have a digital, agile mindset along with a positive and can-do attitude. We want you to play in ensuring in understanding our needs as a product team and setting our development, testing and operations team up for success.

You'll have the capacity to analyse complex technical scenarios combined with the ability to negotiate with different teams. Although this is not a hands-on software development role, you will need to understand the development and testing lifecycle and ideally have a degree or related professional qualification to underpin your practical experience. We will also look for you to:

  • Have experience in project planning and providing accurate forecasts and estimates
  • Have experience with ITIL Release, change and service management processes
  • Hae experience of working with cloud based solutions with multiple integration points
  • Have experience of working with DBMS & Development tools such as Open VMS & MIMER
  • Have experience working with MS Platforms
  • Be highly articulate and credible, consistently influencing and delivering inspiring, engaging, and meaningful information regarding future direction
  • Build collaborative relationships and solve issues by engaging the right people at the right time
  • Engage widely with customers to seek input into setting strategic objectives and identifying new ideas and improved ways of working
  • Demonstrate strong leadership, influence, and accountability for the achievement of results
  • Recognise when change is required and demonstrate personal ownership for pursuing, communicating and implementing the change, whilst minimising the motivational impact on others
