Managing the data that drives positive change in healthcare

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT ), is the largest acute trust in the UK, with over 25,000 staff caring for over million patients a year. Combining 10 hospitals and community services from across Greater Manchester, we provide outstanding patient care and services.

Our ambition is to build on our leading initiatives and revolutionise the way we work together. That's why we're embarking on a programme of unprecedented transformation that will see cutting-edge digital solutions integrated across all our sites and services. This is an opportunity to develop your skills at the forefront of advances in healthcare management.

You'll work in one of the most progressive and innovative Informatics departments in the NHS, backed by significant multi-million pound investment. From introducing enterprise-wide Electronic Patient Records (EPR) to data warehousing and business intelligence that support the decision-making of clinical and operational staff, we're using technology to increase organisational efficiency and improve patient health outcomes.

The role

Big data and clinical intelligence are revolutionising healthcare, offering opportunities for continuous clinical improvement as well as more personalised care. You will play a key role in developing and maintaining MFT's Trust-wide reporting and analysis service, using a range of business intelligence products and data warehousing technology. As we seek to improve clinical quality through informatics, we'll look to your expertise in the specification and development of datasets, processes and reports to ensure we deliver a first-class service to the Trust. Ensuring the integrity of all data will be a key challenge, as will embedding a number of essential cultural shifts in the organisation.

Skills & knowledge required

While experience of working with NHS data would be helpful, this is also an opportunity for data warehousing specialists from other backgrounds to challenge their skills within the acute healthcare sector. You will need experience of working with large relational datasets, as well as specialist knowledge of information management techniques including data collection, validation, database management and reporting. High-level proficiency in SQL Server querying and reporting, or an equivalent, transferable skillset, is essential. You will also need strong organisational, communication and team-working skills.

Sector-leading benefits

This major transformation will expose you to career-defining opportunities, further enhanced by access to high quality training and development initiatives. We will also provide you with a competitive benefits package that includes generous holiday entitlement, childcare support and a desirable NHS pension. Your work-life balance is important to us at MFT, so you will also have access to flexible working options (subject to the role and its requirements).

Diversity and inclusion at MFT

It is vital that our workforce is reflective of the population that we serve, so we hold an unwavering ambition to be a trusted employer for colleagues from every background. Discrimination has no place in our workplaces, so we celebrate diversity and we promote equality of opportunity. Joining an inclusive employer who values the contribution of every individual, you will find a workplace that is both friendly and supportive.
