Experienced Boat Builder Gosport Until April 1st 2020£TBC This is an exciting opportunity for someone willing and able to turn their hand to anything, to be involved in manufacturing the hugely varied work we do within our client's; One day you might be working on a model boat build for experiments in our ship tank, the next you might be assembling parts for an Aircraft, the next you might be making something for a scientist with an interesting idea. In this instance the work largely involves our Maritime area at Haslar/Gosport.Specific Responsibilities

We need an experienced Boat builder, comfortable reading Technical Drawings, accurate lofting & laying out of frames etc., laying up GRP, accurate timber work, fitting of deck hardware etc. The successful candidate will have been involved in a wide variety of boat builds from scratch. We build models that are built to exacting standards and close tolerances for the purposes of carrying trials and gathering data so our vessels need to be accurately made to drawing to meet their purpose.

You will be an adaptable and flexible individual with the capability of working autonomously and as part of a team. You will be a strong communicator, self-motivated, with the ability to plan and organise your own work. You will be an excellent problem solver.

Knowledge, Skills and Personal Qualities Required

The successful applicant will ideally have a recognised Apprenticeship/Training in a mechanical trade and have experience with working in a ship yard / boat building environment, ideally on smaller boats rather than large ships (due to the detailed & accurate nature of what we do)A related educational or professional qualification i.e. C&G / ONC / HNC Mechanical Engineering or similar approved qualification.An experienced technician with a proven track record in Manufacturing High quality, lowQuantity Bespoke items would be an advantageExperience using a wide variety of materials would be of benefit - GRP, Engineering plastic, High grade metals (Aerospace, Marine etc.) We also have trials based facilities that may need support in setting up models from time to time.

Experience with a wide range of workshop equipment associated with boat building is a must, for example: GRP layupPlug & Mold manufacturePatternmaking/wood working toolsEstablishing Datum's, Waterlines, Frame positions, parallels etc. from Technical DrawingsFitting of drive equipmentAccurate aligning of control surfacesEstablishing accurate complex shapes / dual curvature surfaces
