Lead Software Engineer - Newcastle upon Tyne - £60,000

The primary technologies my clients use are PHP, JavaScript (React/Redux), with Python. Data is stored in MySQL, PostgreSQL and Redis. They are constantly evolving our platform and tools to take advantage of the ever-changing tech landscape.

What will you do:

  • Lead a team of Engineers working in a cross-functional team using Agile principles in a highly autonomous and collaborative environment

  • Take ownership of all technical and architecture decisions for your team

  • Work closely with Product Managers and Scrum Masters to ensure timely delivery

  • Support, coach and mentor the engineers in your team

  • Write clean, well-tested and refactored code alongside the other engineers

  • Establish a shared team technical vision, aligned with the product roadmap

  • Define and execute a development roadmap that minimises technical debt

  • Champion software quality

The ideal candidate:

  • Believe in culture and work environment. Above all else they value people with a positive attitude and a good work ethic.

  • Self-motivated and have a passion for knowledge, ego has no place in the business.

  • Experience with distributed data processing, real-time data streaming and messaging systems

  • Experience with container technologies, such as Docker and Kubernetes

  • Demonstrate behaviours that encourage a DevOps culture

You will be a software engineer with:

  • Extensive software engineering experience using one or more languages including PHP and/or JavaScript

  • Experience with architecture design while leading software development team

  • OO skills, strong design and integration patterns knowledge

  • Experience with Agile and Lean delivery approaches and modern engineering practices, such as clean code, TDD, refactoring, Domain driven design, Continuous integration and delivery

  • Experience in designing, developing and consuming REST APIs and APIs as product

  • Experience with communicating technical vision and passion for close collaboration with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • The ability to communicate in a concise and focused way, listen to others, and practice patience
