Job Title: Divertor PhysicistLocation: Milton Park, Abingdon (OX14)Salary: CompetitiveJob Type: Full Time, PermanentThe Company's mission is to transform the way the world generates power by creating a clean, safe and sustainable source of energy for current and future generations. Their innovative approach to fusion is based on two emerging technologies: spherical tokamaks (STs) and high-field magnets made from high temperature superconductors (HTS).Combining these two technologies enables efficient fusion power production in devices much smaller than previously thought possible. To demonstrate this revolutionary technology, they're currently operating the world's first high field spherical tokamak, ST40; designing and building increasingly powerful high-field HTS magnets; and designing a large scale HTS tokamak, ST-F1, that will be the first device to demonstrate the viability of fusion power. The Role:They are seeking a talented scientist to join the physics team and contribute to the design and optimisation of advanced divertors for ST40 and future devices. The role will involve: i) developing and assessing divertor concepts using a range of modelling tools, such as 2D plasma boundary codes; ii) performing experiments on ST40 and contributing to data analysis of diagnostics including Langmuir probes and IR cameras; iii) maintaining existing and creating new collaborations within the fusion community; and iv) presenting results at conferences and publishing in scientific journals. The Candidate:Essential RequirementsPhD in plasma physics or closely related equivalent experienceExperience working in a research environment or developing novel technologiesAbility to work efficiently on own initiativeHighly motivated to deliver against challenging objectives in a compressed timescaleAbility to contribute effectively in a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and scientistsWillingness to learn and adopt new techniques and technologiesAbility to effectively communicate results to both technical and non-technical colleaguesOrganised approach to tackling complex problemsDesirable RequirementsFamiliarity with tokamak/plasma modelling codesExperience of programming languages such as MatLab/Python/C++ and Unix/Linux operating systemsExperimental data analysis experiencePublication historyAbility to work collaboratively with the wider fusion communityBenefits:25 Days Holiday (plus bank holidays)Company Pension schemeEligible for company share option scheme after one years' serviceCompany bonus scheme, discretionary, dependent on performancePrivate medical insurance after 3 months' servicePlease click the APPLY button to send your CV and Cover Letter for the role.Candidates with the experience or relevant job titles of; Divertor Engineer, Nuclear Physicist, Plasma Physics, Physics PHD, Plasma Design Engineer, Plasma Modelling Engineer, Nuclear Scientist will also be considered
