Uppingham School are seeking a Data Protection specialist to manage the School's compliance with GDPR and Data Protection Acts and foster the integration of data responsibilities in the School's daily culture. Uppingham School, founded in 1584, is a leading co-educational independent boarding school. It is a complex organisation: in addition to educating 800 pupils, the School has a number of trading activities including language schools lettings, a dual-use Sports Centre, and a School Shop on the high street that sells to both pupils and public. The School holds personal data relating to its 800 pupils, their parents (c. 650 families), 600 staff, c. 8,000 alumni (‘Old Uppinghamians'), c. 2,000 former parents, 20 School Trustees, and several hundred customers of the Sports Centre and Summer School. The personal data covers a wide range of information including the health of pupils and child protection data. As the GDPR Compliance Officer, you will: Manage the School's compliance with GDPR and other relevant legislation, advising the Bursar of necessary actions and undertaking these actions, and leading training programmes to develop GDPR-awareness among all staff; Maintaining the School's data risk register, data asset register, data maps, and other documentation; Be responsible for reviewing and managing contracts with third-party suppliers of services for products relating to personal data; Foster a data protection culture among staff in the School and be the first point of contact in providing GDPR compliance advice. The successful candidate will be GDPR Practitioner Certificate qualified and will have proven expertise in data protection and data privacy regulations, and experience in a compliance function. Key to the role will be your strong analytical skills and GDPR advocacy skills, as well as your ability to think conceptually, seeing data protection in the round and within the School's appetite for data risk. In return we offer a generous benefits package including a generous pension scheme, 50% contribution to premiums for the School's private health scheme, free membership of dual-use Sports Centre (£15 annual joining fee), free staff lunches in term-time and a school fee discount scheme for children of staff. Please send your CV by clicking the apply button. Closing date for applications is 16th August 2019 at 9.00am. Interview date: 4th September 2019. Please note as an independent school, Uppingham School does not (currently) have to appoint a formal Data Protection Officer, with the regulatory obligations that accompany this title. At some point in the future, it is, however, possible that this role may have to change to a DPO. Uppingham School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure & Barring Service.
