Finance and Transformation, which is a part of Route Services, are delivering services that are vital to the running of the railway, delivering the provision of services agreed by the routes to allow them to benefit from economies of scale and the optimisation of our critical resources everyone's wages are paid on time.

The Finance team are critical to the success of our Route Services business, we believe in a culture of commerciality, cost-competitiveness and customer focus; all of which are core skills for any finance professional.

What will you be doing?

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our Business Systems team as a PHP Developer. The team supports web development activity for three areas in Network Rail and the team is currently made up of 30 people.

If you have never worked in a web development role and simply have a passion for it outside of your day job, then we want to hear from you. We want to speak to anyone who has a background and interest in PHP and scripting language.

Key Accountabilities

What will you be doing?

Develop new systems and improve and enhance current systems as identified through constant development.

Provide technical and operational support in the use of all systems.

Maintain integrity of reporting systems for all users within the functions and provide system administration.

Provide strategic and tactical advice to the functions in relation to Business systems to enable informed decision-making.

Review the system testing processes, test and upgrade systems so that they correctly validate and verify the business requirements.

Assist in the identification and implementation of quality and efficiency improvement initiatives.

Job Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Do you meet the following criteria?

Essential

Web Development skills including PhP, MySQL and JavaScript.

Including knowledge and experience with PHP and JavaScript frameworks e.g. Laravel, vue, react, webpack.

Database design skills.

Good knowledge and experience of internet / Intranet systems and development of web systems.

Good communication skills and a customer focussed approach.

Network Rail adheres to a structured pay framework, any salary offered will be within the following pay range: £32,256 - £36,288.

As an arm's length department of the UK Government, Network Rail is required to comply with a well-established pre-employment vetting process for all prospective employees.  

Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks require prospective employees of Network Rail to meet the following requirements;

Provide eligibility to work in the UK and identity documentation

Complete a satisfactory 3 year employment history check

Complete a satisfactory unspent criminal conviction disclosure check
