Postdoctoral Fellow (Computational) - Immunogenomics Group

We are looking for a computational biologist/statistical geneticist to join the Trynka group at the Wellcome Sanger Institute and advance our efforts in translating immune disease associated variants to function and improved treatment. Our group combines large scale experimental and computational work. We use immune assays to challenge cells in different conditions and measure cellular processes. The backbone to all our cellular readouts is a rich palette of genomic assays, which we use to profile gene expression regulation and chromatin activity. We also extensively use single cell RNA-seq technologies to generate large scale datasets to interpret gene expression regulation in immune cells at the single cell level.

We are seeking someone with strong research interests in genetics of autoimmune diseases, who is a team player, and will be actively involved in planning and leading the analysis of large-scale experiments. You should demonstrate strong statistical and computational skills, have past experience working with large scale genomic datasets.

We are looking for someone creative, who will engage in the ongoing research projects as well as demonstrate independent thinking. You will contribute to the ongoing research projects and will be supported to formulate and develop your own scientific questions within the scope of the group's interests. We are an interdisciplinary group that includes immunologists, geneticists, molecular and computational biologists.

Essential Skills

* PhD in genetics, molecular biology, computational biology, statistics and relevant subject area

* Strong understanding of statistics, genetics and quantitative genomics

* Demonstrated experience working with genomic data

* Proficient programming skills (e.g. Python, Perl, R)

* High self-motivation and critical thinking skills

* Ability to communicate ideas and results effectively

* Ability to work independently and organise own workload

* Excellent written and spoken English

* Experience writing scientific manuscripts

* The ability to effectively communicate with collaborators and occasionally present orally to large groups

* Proven independent working style, problem solving, data analysis and generation of novel ideas
