Infrastructure Engineer - Linux & Windows

Spring Technology is currently working in partnership with a leading institute to recruit an Infrastructure Engineer based in the City of London.

As the Infrastructure Engineer you'll be responsible for the development, support, maintenance and on-going improvement of the clients IT Infrastructure systems, including servers (physical and virtual), core applications, SANs, data centres, and related services, ensuring that these services and processes are efficient, effective, and meet defined and agreed service levels.

The Responsibilities:

*Provide a helpful, responsive and courteous service to all the clients' staff and stakeholders and to work in collaboration with all sections of IT in delivering outstanding customer service.

*Resolve assigned incidents, service requests and problems in accordance with the IT Incident Management and Service Request Management policies and procedures, and within agreed service level targets.

*Undertake IT changes related to scope of the role in agreement with the IT Change Management Policy and Process

*Participate in the evaluation, design, implementation and support of new and changed IT Infrastructure systems and related system management tools.

*Be responsible for the implementation of regular proactive and preventative maintenance tasks, including patches, updates and upgrades to operating systems, virus protection, firmware components, etc.

*Undertake capacity planning and security improvement tasks related to IT Infrastructure systems.

*Be responsible for ensuring that system/data backups are undertaken in accordance with the clients IT backup policy and procedures and that test restores are undertaken on a regular basis.

*Be responsible for ensuring that virus protection software is installed on all relevant Infrastructure components.

*Produce and maintain IT Infrastructure technical documentation, processes and procedures and knowledge Management articles.

*Maintain accurate, asset inventory information of the clients IT assets and ensure the recording of the data in the IT Configuration Management Database (CMDB)

*Attend and actively participate in Technical Design Authority (TDA) meetings when required.

*Participate in IT Infrastructure Support on-call rotas for out-of-hours support as and when required.

*Maintain a safe working environment whilst carrying out duties and comply with all health and safety procedures

The Requirements:

*Knowledge and experience of supporting IT Infrastructure systems, including; servers (physical and virtual), hyper converged storage, Networker backup, core applications, system management-monitoring-alerting tools, scripting languages, SANs and common network protocols across a diverse and complicated organisation.

*Knowledge of ITIL, ideally ITIL certified

*Knowledge of server operating systems (e.g. MS-Windows and LINUX) and related system management tools.

*Good knowledge of data centre technologies, concepts, tools and practices, and industry standards and trends.

*Experience in the build, monitoring and support of VMware (VDI, NSX, Vcentre).

*Experience in maintaining both local and private/public cloud based (AWS, Azure), large-scale, complex systems and new/changed IT Infrastructure services

*Ideally you'll have good knowledge and working experience of Office 365

*Experience of using Service Management tools to manage and resolve incidents and problems and implement service requests and changes.

*Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate with a diverse range of both internal and external stakeholders both verbally and in writing.

*Ideally educated to degree level or equivalent experience

*Ideally you'll have relevant technical certifications (Microsoft, VMware, etc.)
