The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) plays a vital role at the heart of UK life. The wide-ranging work we do to safeguard the natural environment; support the UK's world-leading food and farming industry; sustain a thriving rural economy; and engineer the nation's defences against natural threats and hazards impacts the lives of over 65 million people. Join us and you will be part of a department that protects the food people eat, the water they drink and the air they breathe.

Joining Defra in this senior-level role, you will:

Take on a number of projects that will vary in scale and complexity, analysing user and business needs, and acting as the link between old business models and new requirements.

Ensure final objectives are achievable by critically assessing potential solutions to complex issues. Sharing your evaluations with colleagues, you will act as a critical friend, helping them to find watertight solutions that are aligned to the needs of the user.

Lead in the delivery of business options. As such, you will coordinate and sign-off on the requirement delivery and process modelling phases.

Oversee gap/impact analysis, cultivating the appropriate stakeholder relationships to support this period of transition.

Manage the benefits analysis process, seeing to it that project sponsors, senior managers and project stakeholders are on-board with your final assessments.

Bring policy and strategy colleagues together to ensure everyone is working towards the same goals.

Sharing our values of working with integrity, honesty, impartiality and objectivity, you will excel in this multi-layered role if you have the flexibility to regularly travel to other offices nationally. With excellent communication skills, you will use your expert business analysis knowledge to understand assess, define and justify stakeholder needs and the proposed solutions. Picking the best solution to meet objectives, you will have the capacity to integrate those solutions into the business with minimal disruption, and you will be adept at creating, commissioning and updating business cases to justify the benefits, risks and value-for-money of each project. A natural leader, you will have the confidence to guide colleagues and ensure key stakeholders are identified and managed, and that they remain engaged in your projects.

Everyone in Defra is supported to develop their skills and capabilities. You will have access to learning and development with high-calibre providers, and support from mentors and coaches. We offer flexible working alongside a range of other policies and schemes to support your physical and emotional wellbeing. Our comprehensive benefits offer includes generous annual leave, a contributory pension, staff bonuses and recognition, volunteering days, childcare vouchers and other salary sacrifice options, and an employee discount scheme.

Fixed-term appointments for two-years.
