Our client is the charity that saves lives at sea. With the decision made to focus on the in-house development of lifeboat electrical and electronic systems within their organisation, now is an exciting time to join their team of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.

As an Engineer, you will have in-depth experience in the installation, setup and fault diagnosis of marine radar, marine communication systems, navigation instruments and electronic chart systems.

You will be confident in using your subject matter knowledge to integrate new navigation and communication equipment into existing vessels and support coastal staff and lifeboat crew when technical issues arise, escalating to Senior Engineers and external suppliers when required.

You will work with Senior Engineers on the support and development of the SIMS computer systems across all lifeboat classes. Experience of the design and support of computer based networked control systems running both Microsoft and Linux based operating systems is desirable, as is experience with programmable logic controllers, distributed control systems and embedded systems.

You will be able to help ensure maximum reliability and performance of our client’s electronic systems through life in the challenging environment of small vessels manufactured from composite materials.

You will be able to balance the demands of producing designs for ease of manufacture in a lean manufacturing environment, whilst also ensuring that through life support and costs are minimised.

To be considered, you will need:

- Experience of working in an engineering environment

- Experience in marine design

- An engineering qualification equivalent to the England, Wales & Northern Ireland qualification level 6 as defined by UK government, or at level 4 or 5 with proven additional experience

- The ability to demonstrate working towards and an expectation to achieve Engineering Council registration at Engineering Technician level

- A valid driving licence

As this is a sea-going appointment, you will need to satisfy the institution's medical and eyesight standards.

The closing date for this role is the 27th January 2019.

Our client’s staff and volunteers have been saving lives at sea without prejudice for nearly 200 years. They respect and value diversity of background, skills and perspectives within their teams, and consider it essential to help them deliver a world-class lifesaving service. They are an inclusive organisation and welcome applications from everyone. In addition to having the skills needed for the role, they also look for applicants who share their commitment to living their values (trustworthy, courageous, selfless, and dependable), and helping them work towards their goals of halving drowning in the UK and Ireland by 2024. This involves a growing commitment to preventative action, using expertise to work in partnership with communities locally, nationally and internationally to prevent drowning.
