Chief Technology Officer

Job Purpose: We are looking for a CTO to provide strong sound technical leadership in all aspects of our business. You will communicate with employees, stakeholders and customers to ensure our company’s technologies are used appropriately.

Strategic thinking and strong business acumen are essential in this role. We expect you to be well-versed in current technological trends and familiar with a variety of business concepts.

Reporting to: CEO, with day-to-day reporting to the MD

About the Role

The role reports directly to the CEO, with day-to-day reporting to the Managing Director (UK) and will work closely with the PremFina senior management team. The role is predominantly based in our central London office and will involve oversight of an IT service team in Bulgaria.

Key Responsibilities include, but not be limited to:

Building the business

- Building relationships with insurance brokers and insurers

- Promoting PremFina as the best premium finance solution

- Protection of PremFina’s reputation in the market

- Ensuring consistency of branding and messages to market with the UK business

- Change management skills including integration of technologies and processes from potential company acquisitions

IT Strategy

- Demonstrates a complete understanding of the PremFina IT strategy

- Develop technical aspects of the company’s strategy to ensure alignment with business goals

- Discover and implement IT architecture and technologies that yield competitive advantage and harness new developments and practices

- Communicate and develop technology strategy with key internal and external stakeholders

- Spearhead IT projects to increase market reach and improve our USP

Leading the IT team

- Responsible for the recruitment and line management of the IT teams covering development and service

- Coaching and training team members

- In conjunction with the CEO and Managing Director, agreeing targets, objectives and priorities, managing and apportioning it through the IT team

- Delegating and setting individual targets

- Assisting with external presentations where required

Development

- Maintain current knowledge of technology landscape and developments including blockchain and cryptocurrencies

- Create technology standards and practices and ensure adherence

- Oversee all system design and changes in system architecture

Service

- Supervise system infrastructure to ensure functionality and efficiency

- Track, analyse and monitor technology performance metrics

- Monitor KPIs and IT budgets to assess technological performance

Improve customer service quality

- Determining system improvement suggestions to enhance the PremFina offering and customer experience

- Improves results by evaluating processes and recommending changes to improve efficiency and customer delight

- Resolves product or service problems

Building and contributing to team environment at PremFina

- Shows leadership qualities, positively influencing the team with your energetic and proactive attitude

- Adhering to Policies & Procedures

- Participating in regular team meetings and workshops, as required

- Develops best practices for leading successful IT projects

- Providing internal assistance with new applications, implementation, procedures, systems and initiatives

Key skills and experience:

Personal

- Proven track record and experience as a CTO or similar leadership role

- Knowledge of technological trends to build strategy

- Understanding of budgets and business-planning

- Ability to conduct technological analyses and research

- Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to develop relationships with stakeholders across all levels

- Works to deadlines, along with the flexibility to manage changing priorities and the ability to multi-task

- Sustains a high level of performance under pressure and remain focused

- High level of initiative, along with a proactive nature

- High attention to detail and a keen emphasis on accuracy

- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written including presentation skills

- Leadership and organisational abilities

- Strategic thinking, problem-solving aptitude and hands on where necessary

Technical

- Working experience in Core Java/J2EE

- Working experience with Spring/ Spring Boot

- Working experience with SOAP/RESTful web services

- Knowledge of open standards (e.g. XML, XSLT, JSON)

- Working experience with GIT

- Working experience with Oracle

- Working experience with Hibernate alongside SQL (Oracle, MySQL)

- Working experience with Apache Tomcat, NGINX

- Working experience Linux OS (Red Hat/Ubuntu) and Solaris

- Experienced with build automation/CI with Maven, TeamCity

- Working experience with Azure and AWS (EC2, Load Balancers, Lambda, (VPC)/Azure/DigitalOcean

- Working experience with NodeJS

- Knowledge of MongoDB/Redis

- Familiarity with JSP, AJAX, jQquery, HTML, Python

- Experience in working in Agile methodology (Scrum & Kanban)

- Highly Skilled in Project Management with Knowledge of Prince2

- Skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Qualifications and Experience

- BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field; MBA or other relevant graduate degree is a plus

- Likely to have at least five years experience in a similar role

- Knowledge of both the insurance broker and insurer markets in UK an advantage

- An understanding of premium finance an advantage
