A fast paced and expanding MSE level business is seeking an experienced, energetic and talented Product Manager to be responsible for defining the detailed specification for their range of VMS (Vessel Management System) products. The Product Manager will chair the businesses Product management committee, which as a team defines the overall vision and roadmap for their products. The role will include developing and adapting the Product Requirements, breaking down user requirements, specifying acceptance criteria and ensuring that the product development backlog is prioritised appropriately to meet the business needs.

The Role

* Chair the Product Management Committee and ensure that product development roadmap requirements are clearly defined and maintained.

* Work closely with stakeholders such as the CEO and COO to create a high-level product roadmap and maintain a prioritised product feature set.

* Translating the high level specifications defined in the Product Management Committee into detailed product specifications that provide clarity to the development team and deliver the intended functionality to customers.

* Assist the sales and marketing teams with technical proposal writing.

* Overall ownership for creating and maintaining high level product requirement documentation.

* Deriving Functional and Non-Functional requirements, user stories and acceptance criteria from the high-level requirements.

* Work with the development teams and stakeholders to assess value, prioritise features to ensure that work focuses on those features with maximum value, aligned with product strategy and roadmap.

* Work as part of a cross functional agile project team from requirements definition through to delivery.

* Providing regular feedback to the development team.

* Manage requests for change to minimise the impact of changes on the project team through planning and collaboration with stakeholders.

* Helping the team to continuously improve their process.

* Provide an active role in mitigating impediments impacting successful team completion of Release/Sprint goals.

* Research and analyse market, the users, and the roadmap for the product.

Skills and experience

Essential:

* Previous experience as a Product Manager, Product Owner, or Business Analyst for a minimum of 5 years within a product development environment.

* Degree educated in a relevant discipline (e.g Computer Science, Engineering).

* Experience in command, control and/or electronic monitoring systems, ideally for maritime and/or security/defence markets.

* Outstanding communication and presentation skills with the ability to produce clear and detailed documentation for internal and external audiences.

* Working with modern web based applications.

* A positive and enthusiastic outlook with a passion for product development with attention to detail.

* Willingness to travel anywhere in the world. It may be necessary to visit customers along with the sales team to discuss feature requirements and gain clear understanding of market needs.

* Excellent organisational, planning and time management skills.

* Ability to adapt quickly and understand complex systems, new functions and features.

* Ability to use a systematic approach to prioritise tasks.

Desirable:

* Background in communications and monitoring systems including multiple technologies such as Radar, marine automatic identification systems (AIS) and VHF communications, and command, control and monitoring systems for maritime applications.

* Ideally, experience in product development of both embedded software and web applications.

* Experience of working with relational databases.

* Knowledge of Agile process and principles and agile/project management tools such as Jira.

* Recognised Agile qualification - e.g. Certified Product Owner.

* Knowledge of software and system security requirements.
