Lead Infrastructure Engineer
Liverpool, North West - £48,836 - £56,405 + Benefits
We have an exciting opportunity with one of our high profile government clients based in Liverpool, North West. They have one of largest IT estates in the UK that is engaged with by several million customers each year.
As a result of ongoing growth within their DDaT department (Digital Data and Technology) they are seeking a lead Infrastructure Engineer to join the team. A Lead Infrastructure Engineer assumes responsibility for managing provision of infrastructure services and the provision of expertise to deliver architectural solutions for infrastructure services throughout the service lifecycle.
This is a hands-on technical specialist role with no immediate managerial responsibility but you may be required to manage people in future. The role would, however, involve informal mentoring of new or junior team members and assisting in their development and integration into the team.
Role Responsibilities:
* Review systems designs to ensure selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources, integration of multiple systems and technology and that 'Secure by Design' principles have been followed.
* Lead teams and departments in the implementation, administration and support of infrastructure solutions and services.
* Manage planning of system and/or acceptance tests, coordinating both functional and non-functional specifications and provide authoritative advice and guidance on test planning.
* Troubleshoot and identify problems across different technology capabilities including compute, storage, networking, physical infrastructure, software, cloud, commercial off the shelf (COTS) and open source.
* Identify the correct procedures and appropriate channels for resolution and monitor resolution activities and progress updates to users.
* Establish standards and procedures across a service lifecycle including the development lifecycle and ensure that practitioners adhere to this. You will manage resources to ensure that the systems integration function works effectively.
* Management and administration of:
* Active Directory
* Active Directory Federation Services
* Azure Active Directory Connect
* DNS
* DHCP
* Active Directory Certificate Authority (AD CS)
* Microsoft System Centre, specifically SCCM and SCOM
Experience required:
* Experience of working with and managing 3rd parties.
* Experience of working in a large, multi-tiered support function.
* An understanding of and ability to lead the technology team to adhere to good engineering principles from architecture through to development.
* A strong track record of managing and delivering complex technologies within time, cost and quality targets.
* An understanding of different methodologies including Agile, waterfall and continuous integration principles.
* Able to present information clearly, concisely and accurately in appropriate language, which meets the needs of the user.
* Technical expert in the following areas:
* Active Directory
* Active Directory Federation Services
* Azure Active Directory Connect
* DNS
* DHCP
* PowerShell
