We are currently seeking applications for a Solutions Architect within the Social Security SSD: CDO Division based in Glasgow. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. The Chief Digital Officer (CDO) division within the Social Security directorate is delivering an ambitious digital programme to support the transfer of welfare powers to the Scottish Government, supporting the strategy of a leading digital organisation and ensuring Scotland becomes a leading digital nation.
The Chief Digital Officer (CDO) Division is responsible for delivering the infrastructure, capability and digital solutions that will support the Social Security Programme and ultimately the new Agency. Key focus areas of the CDO Division are:
Architecture and overall design
Technologies and platforms
Digital Risk and Cyber Protection
Operational Delivery and Capability
Commercial Arrangements
Challenges of delivering the new Agency
Scotland's Social Security Agency's will be split between Glasgow & Dundee. Together these offices will create at least 1,500 jobs split across the two cities. Once fully operational the Agency will provide a local presence across Scotland, providing face-to-face support and advice, supported by centralised administrative functions.
The new Social Security IT systems will be the largest, most complex IT programme of change since devolution. The team have started with an almost blank page and the IT spend over the course of the project is estimated at circa £190m. The new agency will process payments of £2.7bn for 1.5 million citizens.

The Social Security Programme represents a significant delivery, technology and digital challenge for the Scottish Government. Setting the new system up is a hugely complex task but a challenge that we relish and one that we are absolutely determined to get right. The goal is a social security system that is there to support the people of Scotland, when they need it, for decades to come.
This role presents a unique opportunity to work as a Solutions Architect within the new programme. The successful applicant, will get in at the start of this high profile public sector endeavor and will be key in shaping the ‘greenfield’ solution for the new platform and in future extensions/enhancements to its systems.
Role Remit
The Solution Architect will play a pivotal role in the shaping and development of all digital solution aspects of the Social Security programme. This role and the duties associated with it will span stakeholders within Scottish Government and its delivery partners.
Qualifications Required
For jobs in Band B & C you must hold a minimum of 3 Highers or equivalent.
