Bring your passion for cutting-edge technology to our vibrant team.

Committed to providing world-class geospatial information and data to those who work in the marine industries, the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) is enjoying a unique period of transformation. Currently in the midst of moving from being an analogue business to a data supplier, we have been updating our systems and technology to reflect this new direction. As such, our technology platform has become much more robust thanks to the adoption of DevOps, cloud technologies, big data and agile practices, resulting in the need for three skilled Senior Automation Engineers to join our ranks.

These three roles will sit in three individual programmes. Firstly, the Mint Program is a centralised computing system which is used for collecting, integrating and managing structured and unstructured data from disparate sources. The second role is with the Customer Program, which offers a broad selection of desktop and web facing services and applications for mariners around the world, while the last role will exist within the Defence Program which caters for the needs of the Royal Navy. All three programmes are using the most advanced technology and offer an exciting opportunity to build, maintain and develop the data engine - offering you the chance to learn new skills in the process. Regardless of which of these dynamic teams you join, you will write test automation code and look for ways in which the program can continue to develop and improve. Using your knowledge of behaviour-driven development testing, you will conduct manual and exploratory testing on systems of all sizes, supporting a technology stack that includes Java, Ruby, Jenkins, Hadoop, Nifi, Pig, Team Foundation Server, Selenium, SOAPUI, Postman, Cucumber, Jmeter.

To thrive in any of these roles, you will have a good working knowledge of C# with experience of delivering professional testing services across both large and small systems. With a good grasp of writing behavior driven development tests in the form (Given/ When/ Then), you will have outstanding communication skills and will be excited about sharing your knowledge and expertise with your colleagues. In fact, your passion for test automation will be such that you will be focused on continuous learning for yourself, plus furthering the capabilities of UKHO. Able to prioritise your own workload, you will apply your meticulous standards across every element of your working day.

As a Civil Service organisation with a business mindset, UKHO provides an animated atmosphere in which to propel your career to the next level. We are committed to supporting the UK, optimising the defensive potential of the armed forces and keeping those in the marine industries (such as fisherman) safe. But we are also commercially astute, identifying and nurturing opportunities for development. It makes for a particularly exciting working day, and one that we’d encourage you to consider joining. So if you’re ready to help us further our reach as we continue to provide industry-leading products and information, we’d love to hear from you.
