You have been successful as an architect for your current portfolio, now you want to have a wider view and scope, this position is for you! Many of our initiatives impact multiple portfolios - you will be the end to end architect for these efforts. In this position you will drive the architecture for the Legal and Regulatory functions within the ever growing Global Consumer Services Technologies portfolio. This will include direct ownership of applications within our portfolio as well as end to end architecture responsibility for initiatives that cross cut across several applications with the goal of creating solutions that allow American Express to be compliant with a variety of ever changing regulations within the international marketplace. Strong communication and negotiation skills will be required as you will be working directly with the business and will be required to influence others, including at times, your own leadership. Responsibilities:

- Collaborate across various teams/platforms to define seamless end to end solutions to meet business requirements

- Drive continuous improvement in platform architecture and quality

- Identify exciting opportunities for adopting new technologies to solve existing needs and predicting future challenges

- Work with product managers to prioritize features for ongoing sprints and managing a list of technical requirements based on industry trends, new technologies, known defects, and issues

- Lead, coach and mentor Engineering resources to ensure quality delivery and the adoption of best practice

- Provide architectural thought leadership on new development projects and strategic initiatives that influence the technical investment of the platform(s). Ensure IT investment is aligned with portfolio strategies and business goals

- Play an integral role in building and enhancing the infrastructure required to support the portfolio in terms of robustness, scalability, availability and efficiency

- Provide architectural governance consultation / coaching - reviewing projects to ensure alignment with security and architectural standards as well as business and technical strategies

- Ensures asset information is accurately recorded / documented for the platforms and/or applications supported

- Provide expertise to development teams working from various locations on application development processes, technical architecture, and systems integration. This expertise should also extend to providing detailed guidance at the code level as required

Qualifications

Required skills:

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, information systems or a related field, followed by five years of progressively responsible experience with Java/J2EE, Linux, and DBMS technologies.

- Experience with Java/JEE application design, software development, and testing

- Hands on experience in an Agile development team

- Experience with JAVA technologies, understanding of integration technologies

- Previous experience of leading a technical team

- A self-starter, comfortable talking through requirements in detail with business partners, pushing back where appropriate

- Strong and current knowledge of web standards, emerging technologies and trends

- Ability to think abstractly and deal with ambiguous/under-defined problems

- Ability to enable business capabilities through innovation

- An excellent communicator, both verbally and written

- Experience with application architecture design and end-to-end software development of complex distributed (multi-tiered) systems including objected oriented analysis, design and design patterns

- Strong communication, interpersonal, presentation and negotiation skills

- Strong leadership skills & ability to collaborate across development portfolios to drive results, coach, lead and develop others

- Strong technical aptitude with an intense desire to learn new skills and industry trends and able to identify opportunities to adopt innovative technologies

- Experience of Enterprise Architecture (EA) frameworks e.g. TOGAF, EA modelling languages e.g. ArchiMate, and modelling platforms is desirable

- Experience with a broad range of software languages and hardware platforms (linux, windows, Mainframe) is a plus

- Understand business capabilities and how they can be realized through technical architecture and physical implementation, focusing on how data is processed transmitted, stored and secured.

- Must demonstrate experience using a systems analysis and design methodology, including Enterprise Java application architecture, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), Web Services design and development (SOAP, REST, XML/JSON), database design.

- Strong understanding of various Java development technologies such as; Camel, Spring/Spring MVC, Hibernate/JPA, Camel, maven, Git, Apigee, PostGreSQL, Docker, MongoDB, etc

- Experience in Financial Services or other industry sector with a heavy Legal, Regulatory and Compliance focus Are you up for the challenge?
