Analytics Manager

Team - Strategic Research and Analysis

Salary - £66,150

The role is to ensure the Strategic direction of The Pensions Regulator is driven by a robust and defensible evidence base.

To build, develop and embed an analytics function for The Pensions Regulator and to provide direction and leadership on all statistical, econometric and analytical deliverables.

Key accountabilities:

   •  Facilitate strategic discussions at board level, including presentation and elucidation of analytic outputs to drive organisational level priorities, policies and strategies.

   •  Lead and take responsibility for delivery of analytical & statistical publications for consumption by government, industry, media, professions and wider public, including publication of Official Statistics.

   •  Liase on strategy with senior management within Develop and other directorates in The Pensions Regulator, other government bodies, including PPF, DWP, FSA, European bodies (including CEIOPS), and represent The Pensions Regulator on influential steering groups and think-tanks, including IFS, PPI, CASS MPC Forum.

   •  To represent the team on all analytics matters, working closely with other teams in The Pensions Regulator to acquire relevant data to produce timely analysis, and with external analytics team to develop relationships to share best practice and findings, where relevant;

   •  Propose, develop and deliver effective KPI’s for the board dashboard

   •  Manage a multi-disciplinary analytics team of six to eight members comprising professional statisticians, economists, risk and pensions specialists

   •  Mentoring new analysts and ensuring that output is of the highest quality.

   •  Engage external consultancies and agencies to deliver strategic analytics work; specify projects and ensure that delivery is to budget, time and quality.

   •  Build and develop world class analytic functions in:

   •  Financial and company risk modelling

   •  Econometric modelling

   •  Market forecasting;

   •  Develop, deliver and embed risk segmentations;

   •  Specify and manage development of modelling infrastructure in SAS and MS SQL Server.

Essential knowledge and core skills:

   •  Postgraduate level maths / econometrics / statistics or similar numerate subject;

   •  Experience of influencing, reporting, delivering insights and facilitating discussion at board level;

   •  Strong commercial experience of best practice in developing, leading development of credit risk and forecasting models in the workplace, and of embedding them into business process & strategy;

   •  Strong leadership experience of analytics staff;

   •  Strong commercial experience of best practice in risk segmentation techniques and implementation

   •  Strong analytical and statistical testing skills, evidenced across complex projects;

   •  Ability to quickly assimilate, select and apply complex mathematical and statistical approaches to research and analysis;

   •  Strong commercial experience and understanding of IT infrastructure for processing data with millions of records

   •  Expert user of SAS, with experience in developing these skills with junior team members.

   •  Experience of implementing statistical testing regime to test hypotheses and deliver insights;

   •  Ability to understand business issues and translate into analytical deliverables;

   •  Clear evidence of strong project management and multi-tasking skills;

   •  Good understanding of cost benefit analysis and risk assessment techniques;

   •  Good working knowledge of econometrics and econometric modelling;

   •  Ability to train the team’s analysts in statistical modelling concepts;

   •  Ability to communicate complex statistical outcomes to senior management in an easy to comprehend manner;

   •  Commitment to personal and professional development;

   •  Ability to draw actionable insight from statistical analysis and communicate to rest of organisation;
