About the role

Joining our team of designers, you’ll bring a fresh insight to digital design and drive a flow of new ideas and industry innovations into the development of our products. Collaboration will be at the heart of your role, as you work with a number of key stakeholders on projects ranging from the Met Office app and our internal websites, to commercial aviation products. Together, you’ll look to implement a smooth user experience that is consistent with the product, including a user-centred design approach and user interface solutions across a multitude of platforms. You’ll also regularly interact with your design colleagues to generate innovative ideas and cutting-edge design solutions for our products. In this hugely varied and impactful role, your design skills and creative thinking will ultimately help to better the ways in which we use digital design to reach out to our millions of users.

About you

An experienced digital designer, you’re a real self-starter who’s keen to make a big impact, and has a passion for all things design. You’ll also need to meet the below essential criteria. If you have any of the additional desirable criteria, that’s even better.

Essential criteria

1. Degree in human computer interaction or relevant experience.

2. Ability to efficiently solve technical problems and implement the solution in a timely manner and organise work in a structured way

3. Ability to grasp fresh concepts and implement efficient, effective solutions in a timely manner

4. Evidence of an ability to participate effectively in an agile team environment and be able to work independently on allocated tasks.

5. Enthusiasm for and understanding of how to provide a professional, high-quality service and work to demanding deadlines.

6. Understanding of design in software development and an enthusiasm for working in the IT arena.

Desirable

1. An understanding of User Centred Design (UCD) methodology

2. Solid design skills and ability to use industry standard software (Fireworks, Photoshop, Illustrator

3. Experience of the web development using including HTML5 and CSS3

4. Experience building relationships with key stakeholders - extracting requirements, presenting work & making recommendations
