As part of the Ministry of Defence trading fund, the UK Hydrographic Office produces nautical publications and services for the Royal Navy and merchant shipping. Our work protects lives at sea. To maintain our leading position supporting the global mission of our national security forces, we employ around 1,000 people. Based in Taunton, Somerset, it is our vision to be the world’s best provider of hydrographic data services. It takes brilliant people to achieve that vision. And that’s where you come in.

When our people need to ask a question or report an issue about our technical IT system - and get it resolved fast - they’ll contact you. Dealing with a range of challenges, you’ll log the incident and, as often as possible, provide the solution. What’s more, you’ll take responsibility for coordinating responses to other issues by colleagues and third party support partners - making sure they deliver a prompt, high quality service, too. You’ll also manage the loan of equipment such as laptops, mobile phones and USB sticks. Recognised for your helpful advice and ability to build working relationships, you’ll enable our people to make better use of desktop systems, products and services.

An analytical thinker with a flair for structured problem solving, you’re familiar with networking systems and desktop equipment including PCs, printers, scanners and telephones. Your knowledge of Microsoft products includes Windows XP Professional, Windows 7 Professional, Office XP Professional (2003, 2007, 2010) and email based on Exchange and Outlook. Your other technical skills span x86 and x64 PC architecture and components, remote control support tools, the installation and configuration of software packages, and updating live websites via FTP client and Sharepoint. You’re also familiar with the use of Active directory to administer user accounts. What really sets you apart is your collaborative, communicative, customer focussed approach.

This is a Ministry of Defence non-reserved post, for which applicants must be British citizens, citizens of the Irish Republic, a Commonwealth state or EEA nations. Successful applicants will require NSV security clearance. You will, therefore, need to have resided in the UK for a minimum of 5 years.
