Job Advert - Software Engineer (Junior to Senior Level)

Would you like the opportunity to contribute to the support and development of new DVLA IT services? If so, our Software Engineer Applications Support role will provide the challenge you are looking for.

We are looking for Software Engineers to support DVLA's legacy and cloud-based Applications, both internal and public facing. DVLA's systems taken more than 4 million driving licence applications every year, there are 33 million vehicles taxed online every year, 6 million card payments taken every year (2nd biggest in the UK), 86 million driver and vehicle records and we take £6 billion in revenue every year (more than Amazon UK). You will be a highly motivated engineer with excellent problem solving skills and have a passion for learning on one of the largest government computing programmes.

You will be supporting the programme that migrates legacy technology onto new, cloud-based platforms, ensuring that the solutions are supportable and fit for purpose. You will be empowered to enhance the systems, constantly putting continuous improvement at the forefront of the work that you do.

2017 is going to be an exciting year in DVLA IT Services where we are continuing the major transformation of our legacy estate utilising an in-house developed and supported set of services. Our services will have the reach to every household in the UK, the size and scale would be the envy of any UK ecommerce service provider, so it will be a fabulous opportunity to make a difference for us and for you.

These roles may attract a DigiTec allowance of up to £10k depending on skills and experience.

These roles are primarily located in Swansea with the possible option to work from Bristol or Swindon.

Role Requirements

Candidates are required to work within an extended hours shift pattern (6am-2pm and 2pm-10pm). An indicative shift allowance of 20% is applicable for extended hours roles and will have the opportunity to be available on a rota basis to undertake out of hours activities and provide on call cover to support the service

You should note that although your initial working pattern will be as quoted above, the Agency reserves the right to alter, or modify these hours, on appropriate notice, should the need arise.

We will consider requests from candidates for alternative working patterns so long as that pattern can be accommodated with the demands of the role.
