Junior Functional Programmer - Game-Changing Energy Company

Bristol

£Competitive Plus Excellent Benefits

Do you love programming? Have you got experience of building scalable, distributed web applications? Looking to learn Clojure or Scala? If so, this is a fantastic opportunity to join a talented team who care about code quality, test automation and continuous delivery.

Our client is leading a new generation of energy providers with a fresh outlook and a unique way of doing business. They are now looking for a Junior Functional Programmer to join their team.

Technology and digital products are at the heart of our client’s customer experience and are key to their ongoing commercial success.

Our client isn’t afraid to take a leap and take that first step into the unknown. They were the first energy company to enable their Pay As You Go customers to top up via their mobile, the first to offer real time electricity and gas usage data and the first to release an Apple watch app.

The hard work of our client’s team has been celebrated in Wired magazine and they’ve been turning heads throughout the industry. Do you know what the best part of all this is? They’re just getting started.

As a Junior Functional Programmer, you’ll use leading-edge technologies to build great software. Specifically, you will:

- Take ownership of, architect, build and scale parts of our microservice platform

- Own the software you create, from your laptop all the way through to production

- Drive both product and technical improvements

- Communicate your ideas, engage with different teams and encourage debate and collaboration

Interested? To become a Junior Functional Programmer, you’ll need:

- Experience of building scalable, distributed web applications in any programming language, and an appetite to learn Scala or Clojure

- Experience with REST and asynchronous event driven programming

- Previous experience of CI, and ideally CD

- Experience of driving automation across build, test and release processes

- An understanding of functional programming

- Strong communication skills

- The courage to challenge current thinking

- Excellent problem-solving abilities
